Someone just gave me their old device and it appears to work but the maps are from the year 2013

On the screens the device says CN Europe NTU 2013.10

I only need a map for the UK not the whole of Europe

OK, so I managed to create what I think is my very first [Please Register or Login to download file]
Magnet links are not something I know very well. I know how to use them but have no idea how to create one.

1. Patching allows you to use other Unlocked maps that are shared here. Garmin Express will only update maps you have a LifeTime subscription for (Central Europe for you)
2. Yes you could reinstall the original Firmware (Not Patched) but then you would not be able to use Unlocked maps, not sure why you would do this.
