Good afternoon Do I understand correctly that for the Nuvi1450 I should use these maps?

Yes your device was designed to use NT maps

Most recent maps available for original Garmin Quest?

Postby FRQ11 » Mon Oct 14, 2024 12:43 am

I'm toying with the idea of installing an early 2000s European spec Garmin Quest 1 with a whopping 250mb of storage on one of my nineties motorcycles.

The main attraction being that it's a period correct device, but I would like to get at least some functionality out of it.

The very little information I've managed to find, states that the device predates NT maps, so I was wondering a few things:

- what are the most "recent" EU maps available for the Quest?
- will I be able to fit Western Europe or a few countries at the most on the internal storage?
- can said maps and software still be found online somewhere?

I hope someone here has the answer to my questions, Google search didn't turn up much conclusive information.

Moved your post to this thread.
Download the gmap folder and create your own map sets with MapSource see if they will work, but I believe the [Please Register or Login to download file] ??
BENELUX is about 240mb

@GarmanNuvi: Thanks for moving my thread to this topic, I wasn't quite sure where to post given the broad scope of my questions. Everything I've found so far indicates the Quest 1 uses non NT mapping, they were introduced with the Quest 2.

I take it your suggestion of creating custom map sets will not work? Is there a recent non NT mapset available somewhere, preferable routable official Garmin but I'd settle for recent open source alternatives if need be.

Thank you for the hard work in opening post !
As it seems this is to be the final version of the NT, I thought it would be good someone to cut it in three or more pieces up to 2GB each, in order to be used in devices with 2GB limitations from now on to the eternal future...
TNX!

That's why the gmap folder has been unlocked and shared so you can make map sets that cover areas you use under 2Gb with MapSource/BaseCamp

@neppheld
"This is the final version...Is that it then?"

So did I on several sites, one smartie even stated an
email from Garmin about not giving evidence for or to whom
though.

No idea which dipshyte started that rumour but it made its way
through the web like a burning fire.

But NOBODY provides a valid i.e. official reference!

Until then it is kinda parotted scaremongering which sks only.

Does not make sense either - Garmin won't damage its
reputation "life time", discontinuing something which is a
simple automated software update for them anyway!

@neilheff
Same you - shouting "Yes" with an exclamation mark
but no source no reference which prooves it.
Not helpful.

Regards
Damian

"Maybe" GarminNuvi just waits for another couple
of month to find out for himself whether Garmin
deprives us from the 2026 version? ;-)
