Some of JCV are full screen (480*270) and some split screen (212*234), there are JCV for whole North America and some only for partial coverage. But unfortunately there is no list or table which JCV is for which region. You only can try it out or maybe some users can post their observations.

My old Garmin doesn't have enough space for this 2GB file. Is it possible to split it up into countries/states, such that I can make a combination of the required sub-maps myself which will fit on my Garmin?

Can Garmin nuvi 265w use 3D? Which JCV would I use and where would I put it? I've been looking in the tutorial section and the tutorials that are there don't completely answer my questions.

I'm having the same issue as Laubo, the img file is too big to fit on my 265w. Is there anyway to extract just US + Canada (and possibly Mexico)?

If not, would an SD card solve my problem? How big of a card can the 265w take in its slot?

Simple solution is to get a 4gig SD and put the map in a garmin folder and it will work fine. This allows you to have the room for future updates and you never have to touch the GPS again. This is a cheap and simpl solution to all you space problems.

Your GPS can handle at leat 16gig SD (that's all i've tested but I suspect it will handle even more).

If you put the latest firmware in your 265 you can have 2 maps on SD named
x:\garmin\gmapsupp.img
x:\garmin\gmapsup1.img

Your 265 also does not support JCV and 3D. The only file you can ever use is the map "gmapsupp.img"

You "could" look for a map with MUCH smaller coverage of North America OR you could make "custom mapsets" any size you like with tools like mapinstall or mapsource but that's a different process and there's a learning curve. An SD is much quicker and easier in the long run and all you need is the cheapest 4 gig SD you can find. A high performance "expensive" card will not perform any better in your 265.

A 2gig card is really to small and may not even meet your needs depending on the brand. A 2gig card may yeild only about 1.7-1.9 gig of free space after the overhead used by the format.

if that was to me..i really need the USA lower 49 states for a nuvi 200 i need to update :) so i will say thank you just in case :) lol.
