Getting my butt waxed again... Life time updates started working again, until now. Nuvi 50, put on the 3.9 gig gmapsupp.img, D3478370A(212x234_nuvi-Drive_4x_5x) D3479370A(212x234_nuvi-Drive_4x_5x), loads but doesn't read the maps, took off the 2 files, put on D9679010A_US_(212x234_nuvi-Drive_4x_5x), still get the no detailed map error... What did I screw up...

"put on the 3.9 gig gmapsupp.img" ,Put on where and in what folder ?

Make a copy of your garmindevice.xml that you say Lifetime maps stopped working then I can see what is going on.

Darn skippy we have! I have an sd card from the last update from garmin that works. I have a sd card from the 2022 update that works with the jvc file on it. One of my computers took a dive. I tried downloading the jvc file from the last 2022 thread, it's a dead link. Im going backwards again, I copied the 2022 sd card, putting it on another sd card, and trying. At lest that will test the sd card. It should have been wham bam thank ma'am. Garmin is trying to put on lower NW 49 and it ended up being it will only do NE 49. I believe. Another 10 hour plus endeavour.

If you are still talking about your nuvi 50 I don't see how it can be so complicated

Hi,
I have a Garmin Drive 51, the software of which is up to date. I have downloaded L49 NW (1.84 GB) maps and extracted the gmapsupp.img file with up to date WinRAR which I copied to a 32GB microSD card formatted following the tutorial. In Garmin Express PC app in the utilities section the SD card shows up showing the expecting amount of data used. However I cannot see the US maps anywhere. Currently the only file on the SD card is the gmapsupp.img file is there anything else I need to do? Thanks :)

Hi,
I have a Garmin Drive 51 of which all the software is up to date. I downloaded the L49 NW (1.84 GB) and extracted the gmapsupp.img with WinRAR. I copied this to a 32GB SD card formatted as per the tutorial. I then copied the gmapsupp.img file directly to the SD card via an SD reader in my PC. When I insert the SD card into the back of the Garmin Drive and connect to the Garmin Express PC app and go to the utilities (settings?) tab the SD card is showing with the expected 1.84GB of storage used. However I cannot find the maps specifically listed anywhere (cannot try the maps as currently outside of the US). Currently the only file on the SD card is the gmapsupp.img. Am I missing something or will it work when I turn it on in the US? Thanks!

Burned again. Going backwards, copied the 2022 card, took a BRAND NEW sd card I bought from last round, copied it, no detailed maps. It's a 2 pack, no problem, formatted it, copied the 2022 card, no detailed maps. Took the known working 2022, deleted the map image, put on the new 2023.20.... Works great. I never expected to ever run into what I did last time especially with brand new cards. Just because they format, you can download to it, even read whats on it, doesn't mean squat. The card can still be bad. I might as well look for a 10 pack of 32 gig cards.......... Unbelievable.

Once again this forum is THE place to come for me to be able to update my maps. I just recently purchased a Chrysler vehicle with a uConnect RHB radio and it has Garmin Maps built in. I look forward to making the update in the very near future.

Thank you so much!

EDIT: The Update was successful, thank you again!

Thanks for your sharing!
I have a problem to install gmap3d on my nuvi 3590. The system showed a message "cannot authenticate maps." After I removed gmap3d, the message was gone. The previous versions of gmap3d work fine.
I would like to know how to fix the problem. Your help will be appreciated.

Hi guys, I love this site! My navi is Garmin Nuvi 3760.
What are files from Post 1 starting from ASR 1.0 up to gmap3d? What is fitting my navi?

I installed base North America NT 2023.20 but would be great to add 3d view, radars and POI. Where can I find it and how install it.
I am doing install straight to MicroSD card.

Am unanble to use this map as my zumo XT says the file is corrupt. Any help will be greatly appreciated

Moderator Note
For a few years newer device's firmware could be patched (determined by their HWID) to use unlocked maps, since the DriveSmart 65 the firmware has been encrypted on these later devices.
Unfortunately it looks like Drive, DriveSmart 52,55,65,66,71,76,86, zumo XT ,Alpha 200i, Montana 700 are all in the same category.
No solution as the Universal Firmware Patcher does not recognise the new encrypted format.

I have a Garmin Nuvi 40 with the 2013 North American NT maps on it currently but want to upgrade if possible. It was $5 at goodwill but I like it and I'm trying to get it fully updated... Seems like it can take only like 1.78 gb internally and up to a 32 gb micro SD card but only read up to 1.82 gb. I'm assuming that is all true and I need to cut down the newest maps to meet the 1.82 gb limit to read. Is there a thread that explains how to do this or any kind of how to as I'm 30 min into researching this after getting the Nuvi earlier today...

Thanks.

The nuvi 40-50 does not suffer from the 2Gb limit of older devices and can take .img files up to 4Gb like all newer Garmin devices.
If you want the whole of N America it is now split into two files All US 3.13 Gb & Canada & Mexico 0.98 Gb you will have to use a Fat32 formatted SD card 32Gb or less. There are multiple regional options in Post #1

Thanks for the quick reply GarmanNuvi. So I downloaded the City Navigator North America NT 2023.10 from this site and placed it into a folder named "Garmin" with the file name of "gmapsupp.img" and also tried placing the "gmapsupp.img" on the card directly without the "Garmin" folder and it doesn't come up on the Navi. My MicroSD card is a "ScanDisk Ultra PLUS 16gb MicroSD HC I" which should be fine based on my reading on here. Now what is odd is that the Nuvi 40 detects the card and the size of its contents which I can verify through Garmin Express though the amount of space remaining is incorrect. It also shows both when in the MicroSD card reader and in the actual Nuvi 40 when plugged into the computer on Garmin BaseMap. At this point I'm not sure what I'm missing but I can't get it to work.

Thanks ahead of time for any insight you guys might have and happy holidays.
