So I downloaded the City Navigator North America NT 2023.10 from this site and placed it into a folder named "Garmin" with the file name of "gmapsupp.img" and also tried placing the "gmapsupp.img" on the card directly without the "Garmin" folder and it doesn't come up on the Navi. My MicroSD card is a "ScanDisk Ultra PLUS 16gb MicroSD HC I" which should be fine based on my reading on here. Now what is odd is that the Nuvi 40 detects the card and the size of its contents which I can verify through Garmin Express though the amount of space remaining is incorrect. It also shows both when in the MicroSD card reader and in the actual Nuvi 40 when plugged into the computer on Garmin BaseMap. At this point I'm not sure what I'm missing but I can't get it to work.
Thanks ahead of time for any insight you guys might have and happy holidays.

Create two folders Garmin & Map and try arranging the files on SD card like this
Garmin/JCV/D3479370A.jcv
Map/gmapsupp.img

Check your garmindevice.xml where supplemental maps go.
<DataType><Name>SupplementalMaps</Name>
<File><Specification><Identifier>IMG</Identifier></Specification>
<Location><Path>Map</Path><BaseName>gmapsupp</BaseName>
<FileExtension>img</FileExtension>

So I created the two folders "Garmin/JCV" and "Map/gmapsupp.img" on the SD card but I don't have a "D3479370A.jcv" in the JCV folder on my Nuvi 40. Instead, I have a "D3479040A.jcv" file on my Nuvi 40 in the "JVC" folder that I copied into the "Garmin/JCV" folder on the SD card. The Nuvi 40 still only shows the 2013 Lower 49 data that I started with but I can see on my PC through BaseCamp the 2023.2 City Navigator map data on the SD card and view the actual map data so I know it is a good copy. Lastly, the device created an "Id.txt" file on the SD card and the contents of the file is "56596517-1c98-4c32-9835-61bebc701d9e" for what that's worth.

Below is copied from my garmindevice.xml on the Nuvi 40 (its exactly the same as what you posted).
<DataType><Name>SupplementalMaps</Name>
<File><Specification><Identifier>IMG</Identifier></Specification>
<Location><Path>Map</Path><BaseName>gmapsupp</BaseName>
<FileExtension>img</FileExtension>

Am I missing something small because I feel like everything is correct. Thanks again for all the support.

"D3479040A.jcv is old and will not work with the 2023.20 version

Your device still has the old 2013 map on, so of course they will still show.
What did you download ,did you the create the gmapsupp.img yourself with BaseCamp if so you need to make sure its unlocked. Post 1 has everything you need just to rename and copy to an SD card. If you use the "Thumbs up" button that helps
What are you trying to use the whole of N America or just US ,Canada, Mexico because City Navigator North America NT 2023.10 is 2 map files

I only need the lower 49 to be honest but I didn't notice that on post 1 initially. I downloaded the "US ALL(3.13 GB)" from post 1 then placed the img file onto the SD. First just on the SD then in Garmin folder then in Map folder with correct .jcv in Garmin/JCV folder. Still no luck.

Thanks for sticking with me on this one. I'm completely lost but I think I figured out the thanks issue on the posts.

Download [Please Register or Login to download file] and use it to see what is going on.
You said the device has 2013 maps on it, check they are not also called gmapsupp.img if they are just rename the gmapsupp.img file on the SD card to USALL.img for example so they are not the same.

Edit:
Uncheck the Hide extensions for known file types on your PC,sometimes people name the file gmapsupp.img.img by mistake

So I verified that I haven't misnamed any of the files by viewing file extensions and I don't have any *img.img files. Next I downloaded JaVaWa and analyzed my Nuvi 40 and micro SD card and found no errors. I decided to make a backup of my micro SD card then reformat it and put the backup back onto the card using JaVaWa and now the maps are recognized on the device. Not really sure what was wrong as the file structure/locations didn't change since I used the backup and it was already formatted to FAT32... But it works now and my best guess is that the SD card must have had an issue as it wasn't brand new that reformatting fixed whatever it was.

Thank you for working through this with me though GarmanNuvi.

Thks...another question...I have the DriveSmart 61 patched. I upgraded the US map using the "Garmin Express", since my garmin has a license for using US Map. However, when I use Basecamp the map installed in Garmin by "Garmin Express" appears as blocked. So I wonder if I have so exchange the gmapprom.img installed by "Garmin Express" by the one in Post #1. Should I do the same with all other files I can download from here ?

Does your device have LifeTime Maps for the US & Canada only, Lower 49 or for North America.
Post # 1 has the Unlocked gmap folder so you can create maps with BaseCamp or Mapsource on your PC
What are yo trying to achieve ,if you DS 61 has been patched you can download from post #1 what ever you need as they are all unlocked.
Please start using the "Thumbs Up" button, then we can see what you are downloading

This is an old thread, so links will be dead.
Go to new-maps/ look at STICKIES this is where the most recent maps are that have been shared.
