Garmin Dakota 10 Base map

Postby wvappleby » Tue Jun 26, 2012 1:44 pm

Hi,Im new to this great site,I hope I'm posting in the right area.
As the title suggests my brother has a dakota 10 that he uses on his bicycle. He came to me this morning with his Garmin and said he can't get any maps or mapping info at all on it.
He said he had been trying to update the maps, etc, but made a botch of it.He did'nt do a backup of it either.
I'm aTomTom man myself, and have no knowlage of Garmins.
He thinks that the world wide base map is missing.
Any help to restore this Garmin would be greatly apprerciated

First of all you should use the Garmin WebUpdater (free download from garmin.com) to restore some functions, language files etc. - maybe the basemap also will be restored. If not, you can use every Garmin basemap you find (e.g. from nuvi etc.) - the basemap isn't so important for function of device, only for overview in big scales needed.

Unfortunately our links for Worldmap v5.01 don't work anymore, but you can ask bam-bam, if he can upload it again.

To the need you can download this
Code: Select all
http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3645

Extract and copy gmapbmap.img from subfolder \GarminMobileXTFreeBasemap_4xxxx\GMobileCard\Garmin\ to Garmin folder on device. It's a very small and simple non routable basemap, but it does it's work.
