Garmin NuVi 710 - South Africa

Sun Feb 19, 2012 12:12 pm

I have a Garmin nuvi 710, and like stated i am from south africa.

I have had this GPS for a while, and there was a guy at our work that normally updated the maps for me, but he left, and now i am lost ;)

I never registered the GPS on garmin's site.

Now, i want to load the new maps, can someone give me some direction, to how to do this?

i have seen this in the sticky :
  • City Navigator Southern Africa NT 2012.40_3D_ASR_G2S_JCV
  • City Navigator Southern Africa NT 2012.40UIMG
  • City Navigator Southern Africa NT 2012.40LIMG
  • Mapsource locked
which ones do i need to download, or do i need all of them?

I also installed a old'ish version of mapsource that i had on my HDD, but when i start it, i get " mapsource could not find any installed map products, please install one or more products...."

Will this version work, or do i need to download a new version, and if so, what is the latest?

Regards,

The easiest way to update your device is to load an unlocked image version like City Navigator Southern Africa NT 2012.40UIMG.
You also can use the MapSource version but you have to install it on your PC, unlock it and then transfer it with MapSource program to your device. Before you have to update the MapSource program to actual version 6.16.3.

- decide what you like more :D -

Ok, so if i get it, the UIMG is unlocked and the LIMG is locked.

If i have downloaded the UIMG file, how do i "import" it to mapsource?

Thanks for the reply

You nedn't import it to MapSource - you can use it directly on your device or SD - just copy the gmapsupp.img file in folder Garmin.

If you also want to have this map in MapSource, you must load the MapSource version as I told you above.

Ok, I downloaded the mapsource locked version, and after some trial and error, i think i got it working.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
