MapSource®-Map for Iceland. (status: Sep 12th 2011)
To work with Garmin's MapSource®-Software and for upload to all mapable gps devices of Garmin.
The map can also be used - with some additional (self-)work - for GPS-devices of ALAN and with some additional (self-)work for Magellan Triton. You can find more information on Alex's website .
If you have a PDA (PocketPC) just have a look to i.e. Glopus.de, which can import bitmap-maps and the img-format.
There is no way (as far as I know) to import the map into TomTom-devices.
I got positive feedback from users handling with these devices:
- Streetpilot 2610 GPS
- GPSMap 176
- eTrex-Serie
- GPSMap 60C(S)(x) und GPSmap 76C(S)(x)
- iQue m5 und iQue 3600
- Quest
- Nüvi 250, 255, 300 und 350 (delux)
- Nüvi 660
- Zumo
- GPS 276C
- GPS C320
- Colorado 300
- Garmin G60
At the moment the map contents the following objects:
* Coastline and most of the islands
* most of the common roads (~95% gps verified)
* Maps of Reykjavik, Akureyri, Hafnarfjördur, Isafjördur and others
* highland (4x4-)tracks (~95% gps-verified)
* walking-tracks: Laugarvegurinn, Hornstrandir, Lönsoræfi, Seyðisfjörður, Kjalvegur and others
* most common ferries to Vestmannaeyjar, Flatey, Grimsey, Seyðisfjörður, Viðey
* glaciers and marked mountains
* larger lakes and rivers
* many mountain-huts (description of the huts on Dieter Graser's (german) homepage Isafold.de)
* many interesting one-day-hiking trails
* some campsites (but not complete)
* many POIs (Points-of-Interest), most of them can be searched in the GPS
* many fords (but not complete)
* 20-meter-contourlines
* But: the map is not routeable, neither in MapSource nor in the device !
