Nuvi 40

Postby Tomc » Thu Mar 20, 2014 9:59 am

Hi,
Just wondering if someone could give me a complete run down on how to change the map on my Nuvi 40. I bought the satnav from America about a year ago and need UK maps putting on it and American maps backing up if possible.

I honestly dont have a clue where to start. The Nav does not have a SD card and only has the internal memory. Will I require an SD card?

Any help at all will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

A µSD card is the easiest and safest way to use additional maps on a nuvi. Create a folder Map on it and copy the unlocked *.img file into it.

Is it a 4gb micro sd? I will pick one up tomorrow. Do you know any way to add speed camera checker on? Also the unlock maps have multiple files do you just add them separately in the file "Map"? Thanks for the help!

4 GB µSD is OK.
You only need the unlocked *.img and a JCV (not necessarily required). All other additional map files are not supported by your device.

What 5 files? As I wrote above you need 2 files: *.img and *.jcv!
And the folder must not be named Maps it must be Map!

Sorry it is named Map. There are 5 parts to the unlocked .img file that's what I can't understand.

Do you mean the parts of the RAR-archive?
You have to extract it with WinRAR or another appropriate program.

Yep did that. Not the best with computers sorry. I went wrong as I copied the file into Map folder which created a sub folder so it didn't work. Appears to work now. Although the jcv file didn't work won't open with winzip so will have to re download that.

Your help has been great thank you!

One final question how do you put on the speed camera checker? Having trouble locating the waypoint folder which is where you place it isn't it?

Thanks again for all your help you have been great!

You have to copy the *.gpi files in the existing folder POI on your device or create a folder POI on SD card.

Unfortunately, I can not speak English, so this one was translated by Google, so I hope you will understand the point. There is one 40-inch Garmin navigation and the problem with the latest software (3.70és3.80) does not work with JCV (node view) function. The 3.60's Oldest and software work without any problems. I've been trying to do the JCV file on the card, but it's not good. A map of the latest Garmin CN Europe NTU 2015.10, but the previous versions did not. Can you offer some advice?

thank you

I've got EUU 2015.10 on a nuvi 40 running v3.80 software and it shows JCV fine in simulation. Are you using the right file? Each map version has its own JCV file and for 2015.10 that's D3589120A.JCV only, earlier versions such as D3589110A.JCV meant for 2014.40 map won't work. The larger 212*234 picture size file is for 2/3xxx devices only and is made differently so also won't work.

Don't have any older files in the JCV folder covering the same map area or they can interfere with the proper working of the correct file too.

The JCV folder, only the files in the appropriate D3589120A. I heard that Garmin has introduced a new security system for the protection of the new maps software. This may be true?

This is correct, but it only applies to new 2014 devices (e.g. nuvi 55, 56, 65, 66, GPSmap64). On this devices you can't use unlocked maps (so far).
