Took a chance and did the same on a memory card but left out the sql folder, all is working well, can someone tell me what the SQL folder is what it contains ? it appears to be database files but for what ? My current thought is that this is what has corrupted my memory stick anyone have any thoughts ?

Should those db files stay in the SQL folder or should they be in the garmin folder with the image files?

Your garmindevice.xml shows you where everything goes

<Name>NamedTrails</Name><File>
<Specification><Identifier>NTRL</Identifier></Specification>
<Location><Path>Garmin/SQL</Path>
<FileExtension>db</FileExtension>

I used this method to install the maps :
To Create maps for Mapsource.
unzip the archive FIRST
1. download (Protected Garmin file toolkit) unlock each of the .img map file separately. note the FID once unlocked.
2. Next download (GMapTool) under files ,drop your unlocked .img (one at a time) then At Split tab, select a new folder to split the necessary files. Select “Create: files for Mapsource”. Tick “Compile preview map” (you don't need to name this) also tick “Set mapset FID”, and specify FID, (which you have noted in step 1)
3. Go to your new created folder and install.bat and follow instructions, once installed open up Mapsource.

To use the maps on your Garmin gps.
I just used copied over the unlocked .img files.
I've put the sql folder on the sd card also, but I'm sure that has to be on the internal memory
Hope that's helped

SQL folder goes on the SD card, as supplied by Garmin.
BaseCamp reads the SD card including the .db files so you can use search properly on your PC.

Got it working using gmaptool and using imgtool to change the code to 1205 as detailed in the links above! it works incredibly well and thanks a lot!

I've noticed my signal looks like its about 100m off do you think this is an issue with my device or the mapping?

Managed to load these maps on my Montana 610. The downloaded maps worked in Basecamp but were locked when copied to SD card. Used gimgunlock on a PC to unlock the maps but was then faced with authentication error. Not wanting to run the risk of patching the Montana 610 firmware, used ImgTool to set the Code Page of everything to 1252, copied the resulting files to the SD card. Maps are no longer locked and are authenticated. I have not experienced any problem with using the maps and the quality is slightly better than that using the older Discover GB V4 maps I was using previously although they are still not particularly up-to-date. Not really a problem for hiking.

Just a couple of comments. I am not sure about the 1205 code user bonefenix mentions and I did not try it as I assumed it was a typo and 1252 worked for me.

Be careful with ImgTool dowloads. I found several versions which were riddled with viruses! The link to ImgTool1.9.29 on this site appeared safe when I downloaded it. Avoid other versions and scan every downloaded file for malware!
Moderator Note
ImgTool has its own thread where this is covered

User bonefenix also mentions a 100m error when using these maps. I have tested one of them in a area I am very familiar with and can report that there is no systematic error in position with accuracy of better than 3m with my Montana 610. I would therefore suspect any error is to do with his GPS unit rather than the map. I have no experience with Garmin watches (people must have better eyesight than me if they can use mapping on a watch).

Tried again today and still can’t manage it.

Maybe the maps are locked and signed. Use gimgunlock and maybe also a patched firmware for your device.
Which device do you use?

Was trying to use them on an Epix gen 2 and have managed to get them working with gimgunlock and img tool as described in the post above

Thanks so much for these maps, tools, and instructions!

Just tried on a new Fenix 6 Pro after mis-understanding everything. It's so simple and you don't need to unlock/touch your firmware.

  1. Download all img's, each is a section of england like East, West, Scotland etc
  2. Unlock them with gimgunlock - literally drag & drop them to the exe and they're done
  3. Now install ImgTool, ImgTool has its own thread where this is covered , disabling Windows Defender while you do so
  4. Run ImgTool and drop one img on it, click 'Code Page', then 'check all', enter 1252, and confirm
  5. Do the rest of the imgs the same way
  6. Copy the unlocked img's to /GARMIN and detach watch from pc!

If I can do it you (anyone who's reading this) can!

That said...they're slow to load compared to other maps, and look kinda poor compared to the same on a phone, so I use [Please Register or Login to download file] for now

Downloaded this today. Tested it and it works on Montana 600 when I used gimgunlock.exe on SD card.
It did not fit on 16GB SDHC card, so I used 64 GB SDXC. However, there are 5 individual files which can be put on the card separately: East, West and North England, North and South Scotland.

Appreciate its an old thread - but hoping for some help.

Downloaded the img files
Unlocked them using Protected Garmin File Toolkit - message to say now unlocked
Using imgtool changed the "Code Page" values to 1252 for all.

Copied it to garmin folder on my device (Edge 830 Cycling computer)

And nothing.... doesn't feature in the list of availble maps.

Any ideas?

EDIT - think I have answered my own question - the 830 doesn't have an micro SD card slot, therefore firmware security seems to be stronger and therefore not compatible.... shame!

After unlocking with Protected Garmin File Toolkit, the maps work perfectly on my good old GPSmap 62s. Thank so much guys, it's truly a great gift.

Trying to make a Paypal donation, but link isn't working..

Hi everyone, I went to the link today and 4 out of 6 of the files seem to have disappeared overnight. I downloaded 5 of them last night, but unfortunately missed one.

I missed d5275020a.rar (2.49GB). Does anybody have a copy of this?
