How to install a map in my Carminat Tomtom

Okay, the problem is that you are probably using system and navigator files which are not suited. You make no mention where you got them from.

Forget your backup. Read post #44 carefully and use the contents of the zip file which you can download. For all clarity: copy those files/maps to the root of your sd card.
Patch and run.

Wow, it worked! Is there any way I can copy my favorites from the old to the new SD?

I'm not sure. I don't think it uses mapsettings.dat. But if your backup has got such a file in the map folder you can copy it to the new sd card.

Please let me know if you can sort this out.
Anyway, nice that you can use the updated map isn't it?

Edit: I You can't copy favorites and home address...
It has been a complaint for a lot of Carminat updaters.

razorblatter:yes I'm very glad with my updated maps: thank you for your patience and effort and willingnes to share your knowledge!

TomTom says there's a way to transfer favorites from an old to a new card (by transferring the favorites to POI's), I will explore that way & if it is succesfull I will let you know.

Thank you for now, I've made a donation.

Transferring favorites to poi can be done but is in usage slightly less easy as favorites.
First add category, next add items.

In my opinion you can better manually add them again as favorites

The biggest advantage of making a favorite.ov2 poi category is that you can add more than 48 favorites.
Oh yes, you can copy them too (with Carminat) :lol:

Thanks again: oaky, I copied the favorites to a new POI category on my old SD, copied them on the computer with MyTomTom and imported that on my new SD. It took some time to find out where they were stored, but from there I acted as if I wanted to navigate to them, then I could add them to favorite as a recent destination one by on (pff).

So, where did this exercise lead me to:
- my maps are update by 7 (!) years :-)
- I've still got my favorites
- I've got lane guidance (didn'have that), very nice!
- systems says I'v got IQ routes (don't know what that is, will find out..)

So thats great and thanks for the support, only downsight is that I see a strang green rectangle when starting up, but that dissapears after a few seconds, and secondly: it seems I don't have traffic information anymore. The options in the menu are greyed out...and I really liked that option very well: did I miss something? Should I've choosen another map (number?), is there an option that I missed?

Traffic information is a paid service unless you have a rds-tmc cable although I don't think that works with Carminat.
This is unrelated to your map version. But you do have the correct Carminat map.

The green rectangle is unknown to me. Is it perhaps the splashw.bmp startup screen? That can be replaced.

I will have a look at the startupscreen, and i'm quite sure I did have the tmc-traffic information, this is not the same as the live variant, but it sure worked for me.

I will dive further into that...

Yesterday, I had a XL classic which was never updated. I installed 9.510 NC and Europe map on 4 GB sd and used the previously totally unused RDC/TMC cable. Worked without a problem.

You are correct that Carminat does work with RDC/TMC: I just found a (quoted) bit of info which you can try:

So I removed my SD-card and turned off the radio and car completely.

When I got back into my car, I inserted the SD-card, turned on the radio (not the car !) and waited until the system was back up and running.

Then I turned on my car and all of a sudden the TMC was working again, I even got traffic information.

What to do?
~~~~~~~~~~~
0) Put a new sd-card in your Radio/Carminat and let create the folder "loopdir"
1) Extract "NC_8842_Full_Complete_Install_yDGpatch.zip" and copy folders and files to your sd-card.
2) In the loopdir is a file called "ttgo.bif. Copie this file to the root SD Card
3) Use map Europe 975.7688. Unpack it and
Copy the new map to your SD card in its own folder.
When you open the map you see the individual files.
Not a map in a map.
4) Copy "FastActivate.exe" to your SD Card root.
Run "FastActivate.exe".
Select 2.
Done
Like to hear the result Good or Bad
I think 8.841 would be okay but I would update it via TTH or via the download. It might be a small update but it is an update.
