hi Fatboyfun.my binatone b350 is frozen.when i switch my satnav on only binatone logo is shown,and i can't do nothing else.i folowed your instructions to flash the rom but nothing hapened.i format my sd card to fat32 with default allocation(becouse i can't format to fat 16 bit on windows 7) and put all 4 files 1 read me file on sd root.then i put sd card to sat nav.i pressed the top button while turning the sat nav on but nothing happened.i was waiting for more than a minute,but nothing.only black screen.white sreen not turned on.or i'm doeing something wrong or my sat nav completely dead :(
if i would manage to flash in different way that would be great,but i have no idea if it's possible.sorry for my bad english.thanks in advance!

There is no other way to flash the rom, Why is the device frozen? Was it a bad registry edit or did it just stop working?

Also what SD card are you using? It must be a SD card not a SDHC card, FAT32 works ok on Binatone's

I borrowed this sat nav for my neighbor long time ago couse at that moment i did't needed and when he bring me back he said this sat nav stopped working,so i don't know what is the real problem why sat nav stopped working.maybe he tried to do something but didn't told me or just stopped working itself.anyway the sd card i'm using is sd not sdhc.but if there is no more ways to flash i will give up trying to repair.Probably the chip inside is corrupted.At least i tried :) and THANK YOU for your respond,Fatboyfun!!!!

We had another one recently where the internal flash chip had failed, We all get hardware failures occasionally.

You mean that there are other files to flash the rom if internal flash chip had failed?if yes where is possible to download them? or i understood wrong?

If a chip has failed there's not a lot you can do about it.

If you just switch the device on what happens?

When i switch the device on "Binatone" logo appears i the middle and on the bottom it says "Drive like a local" and thats it, i can't do nothing else.It stops on this point.

ive been given one to sort out but this is a a430,exactly the same problem,just boots upto binatone logo,im just about to reflash it with a b430 rom i will let you know of the outcome after

Do you get the startup sound?

The startup sound is played after WindowsCE has booted but before HKLM\init is processed, So no sound means WindowsCE isn't booting properly (Or someone turned the sound off), This could be down to a corrupted ROM image or faulty hardware, If you can't start the flashing procedure then it's likely to be a hardware issue.

so i think is the only one way to sort this thing out-just chuck in a bin this satnav that's the only thing i can do anymore :)

For the price of these devices, just bin it and buy another, the cost of parts far exceeds the cost of the unit.

1 format memory to fat32
2 d/load A350 rom file to pc
3 put the 5 files onto the memory card ( chain.bin,chain.lst,drivers.bin,nk.bin,
tinynk.bin,these should be the files for the A350 rom,no read me file)
4 put memory card into the unit
5 hold sleep button and slide the switch to turn on the unit
6 keep holding the sleep button for about 10-15 seconds or longer until you get a white screen
7 when you got a white screen saying updating or summat simaler let go of the sleep button
8 let it go thru the progress of re-flashing it will take about 10-15 mins
then it will re-boot,and hopefully this should go past the binatone logo


ps if you are gonna scrap it please can i have your battery

Thank you Magnu420,but i can't give you battery now,becouse your post and detail step by step tutorial was very helpfull for me!!!
Everything worked for me like a charm!!!Thank you very much.
Only one thing didn't worked before to me is: when i downloaded A350 rom from rapidshare i put all them 5 files on sd card you wrote before and put into my satnav and turn on with top button pressed,white screen appeared and update process started after when update process finished i turned satnav on but nothing happened,only blank screen appeared and nothing else.so what i did-i put them 4files (which was with read me file)from B350 rom to my sd card root and copied chain.lst file from A350 rom (which was missing in that B350 rom i downloaded before,becouse was READ ME file insted) and after that put again in my Binatone satnav.turned on again with top button pressed and update process started again 0of4 update processes.after that i turned my satnav on and everything works perfect!!! now i put Tom Tom 6 on it and everything is fine.I'm so happy for your usefull post,but i feel sorry for that that you will not get your battery now.But honestly if i woud not manage to get through i would sent you this satnav by post,becouse i wanted to bin it.better to give for somebody for spear parts who need them then to bin.i know this Satnav doesn't cost lots,but me personaly and i think you as well like to mess about with technologies and make them to work or repair software,so only for this reason i was trying to make this Binatone to work.and i can take it with me when i need.
