Binatone B350 error - "hive partition"

Postby Fatboyfun » Mon Jun 11, 2012 5:34 pm

The hive partition is a hidden partition within the internal flash memory, it is where the registry is stored.

Thanks - so is there no recourse here? I thought that as the SD card has gone that was why nothing was loading?

Apologies if I am being thick - I assumed that if I found the files and put on a fresh SD card as per earlier posts there was a chance that it would do the trick?

It depends, remove the sd card, turn the device off using the switch, count to ten and switch on, what happens?

No difference with or without a blank SD card inside - both times it just says Recover the hive partition.

You can try flashing but I reckon the internal flash memory is dead.

No sound on my Binatone F350 (Wince 6). Does anybody have a F350 ROM?

I checked the volume from the WinCE control panel, ran that through your Binatone Toolbox (thanks for that), checked everything I could, reset the deice to defaults through the Binatone shell, no joy, both the original sat nav program and iGO Primo have no sound.

The deice was bought through ebay, so I don't know if anything's been done to it. Barring a hardware fault with the speaker, it could be something in the wince registry or a file missing, a codec or something, don't know, I'm not sure what do I need to check there. And being that the Windows Mobile Device Center in Windows 7 does not detect the device when connected on USB, I thought a reflash might be in order.

As far as I know there isn't a suitable ROM available for the F350, however it's not uncommon for the speaker to be broken or detached, you can confirm this by using headphones.

Confirmed, the speaker is gone faulty, there is sound through the headphones. I didn't think these things can brake on its own just like that, with the unit still intact. It looks like I'll have to use it on silent, not ideal, but its ok.

Thanks for your help.

Just an idea : when you can connect earphones, can you not connect cheap (pc)speakers?

Its an option, thanks, but I probably not going to bother doing that, too much hassle. I knew before I bought it that there was no sound, so I am prepared to use it like that. I was just wondering if it was something that could be fixed.

It's not difficult or expensive to put a new speaker in, you will find the headphone output a bit "noisy" (popping and hissing) when used with an external speaker.

It's not difficult? It doesn't look easy, I can't see an easy access to the speaker.

Obviously you will need to open it up and there will be soldering involved.
