Unlocking one of these has never been very hard.. Its runs WinCE 5..
Just connect it, via a usb connection to a Windows based computer, and it'll auto-sync. You will see a new device in your listing of drives.
Mine showed as WinCE device. Clicking it, I was inside the GPS. Where you find very basic WinCE.
However, there's 2 other drives listed.. ResidentFlash, and SDMMC.
SDMMC is your current maps...
ResidentFlash has your current Nextar GPS software loaded on it.
Go into ResidentFlash, and COPY autorun to your hard drive. place it where ever you'd like.. (desktop for easy finding, and editing).
This should be your MAIN copy, not to be changed so, if you happen to screw something up, you can always put that back in, and you're back to your old GPS software.
Make a 2nd copy, call it whatever you like. (this is the one we are going to edit) ( I would create a folder, called GPS and place it there. Its also a good idea to copy the entire folder of ResidentFlash to this new folder on your computer)
Now, goto that new folder on your computer, and open, with notepad autorun...
Currently, all you should see is something like this..
\ResidentFlash\DShell\Dshell.exe
We need to change that to the following.
\Windows\explorer.exe
Copy this file, back to the GPS \ResidentFlash folder. You should get a pop-up asking if you would like to copy and replace this file. YES you
do wish to do that.
Once that is done.. Reboot the GPS.. (use the switch on the back)
Once you're GPS splash screen comes on, you'll be dropped into WinCE. And, you're ready to start exploring the world of GPS.
P.S. If you have not done so.. could you please back up your Oddessy files, and upload them here.. I've lost mine.
just zip the entire ResidentFlash making sure to grab all files, before doing anything else.. (in my haste of changing GPS systems, I forgot
to do this, and now, I have no way to ever go back to the old system, if I wanted to)..
Many thanks!
Hope that gets you going.
I also have a Nextar Q4-04 GPS
Running Primo 2.0 or Igo 8.3.5
