Universal Shell

Postby kayedee » Sun Sep 25, 2011 3:46 pm

Fatboyfun,
I have copied US version 1.7 folders + shell.ini to SDMMC of my Binatone F430, press navigation on device menu screen, I see the first two pages of loading then there is a squelch sound and revert to original device menu screen, thought it was the original menu hiding it so added Kill JBSHello.exe as one of your posts suggested, but still no joy.
Any help would be appreciated.

It needs to be...

Kill ("JBSHello.exe")

With the quotes and parentheses otherwise it won't work.

Possible solutions...
You may need to use the line... Kill ("\Windows\JBSHello.exe")
The original shell has a different process name, use a task manager to check
The Toolhelp.dll file is not present in the Windows directory and for some reason it's not copying across into the Universal Shell directory, so the kill command doesn't work, check with a file explorer or activesync

There is no Toolhelp.dll file present in Windows directory, I have not tried your other possible solutions as maybe this is the problem?

Is there a Toolhelp.dll in the Universal Shell directory?

If not then the kill command (amongst others) will not work meaning the original shell won't be killed. In the apps directory is two Toolhelp.dlls (Toolhelp5.dll for wince 5 and Toolhelp6.dll for wince 6.) pick which one you need and rename to toolhelp.dll and copy to the Universal Shell directory.

There was no toolhelp.dll in the Universal Shell directory, so carried out your instructions.
The outcome is still the same, i.e. makes squelch sound and reverts to original menu after second screen.

Check to see if your device is Wince 5 or 6 and also check using a task manager whether the shell is called jbshello.exe

Device is wince 6.
How can use task manager when the device is locked?
Thank you for your time on this.

Double check there is a Toolhelp.dll (Originally Toolhelp6.dll) in the Universal Shell directory, And then set your device to run ITaskMgr.exe

Click on the Process tab and look for JBSHello.exe, If it's not there, list everything here...

If you get a message saying Cannot find 'ITaskMgr' (Or one of it's components) then it can't find Toolhelp.dll.

Then the shell process is not being killed, Did you try the line...

Kill ("\Windows\JBSHello.exe")

Sometimes you need to specify the process location with some devices. No idea why..?

Just tried it and I see something very briefly before the original menu reappears (but too quick to identify)

When the menu reappears does it "work"? ie, can you tap the buttons and they respond?

The Navigation button will not restart US, but the menu button responds and I can select further up the menu e.g. multi media or settings etc.
