I want to get up to date maps. The latest available are only q4_2008, which I have. It seemed that visual for becker might do the trick, but others encountered problems. I wanted to put in a batch file (working in xp) to select start based on sd card installed (so I don't loose existing maps). But wince does not do batch files. The various .mscr files in visual seem to do what is required, with scope to add other map systems in a routine way. So I am trying to discover the pitfalls in advance. I have only one 7916, and I don't want to render it useless. Access to 'explorer.exe' on the 7916 seems to be the essential feature that must be kept available, so that stuff may be moved to and from the flash disk via any sd card (not hd). Hence the query regarding where 'shell.exe' fits in the sequence from switchon to 'start'.

Sorry i was getting confused between the Shell.exe in the windows directory and the Shell.exe in My Flash Disk, (Users replace Windows\Shell.exe in the registry and the device doesn't boot) From reading the thread properly it would seem that it does work, BUT YOU MUST rename Shell.exe to ShellB.exe or the device does not boot properly with the unlock installed, Secondly you need to copy Toolhelp.dll into the directory where Mortscript.exe is (Available from this thread) And lastly you may need to compress iGO.exe with UPX (Google)
Windows\Shell.exe = Important part of Windows
My Flash Disk\Shell.exe = The default menu
The idea with the unlock is to replace the default menu to allow you to run other applications
Triple check any edits to existing files on your device!

Thanks. I did not realise that there are two 'shell.exe'. I feel more comfortable about it now.

I don't know the Becker 7988 that well, from reading this thread it would seem that most users prefer to unlock the device and run iGO Primo for the latest maps

If it beeps that means it didn't find the exe file... check the path and if the exe exists...

Thanks, but this is where I am confused. Installed Visual, but do I need to install Igo Primo also, or is it included in Visual. If not, van I install it on the memory card?

Yes, ofcourse you need Igo, Visual is just "shell" and unlock....

Look in the iGO section. If you feel the need, post in general discussion.
