I don't seem to find much information on this site for the Mio range and have come to the conclusion that i am missing something as this is the best GPS site
Can anyone tell me what the best way to update the maps on a Mio Moov Spirit S505 is ?
This model has 128 RAM + 1GB memory + slot for SD/SDHC

Put primo on it, as you can't update the original software.

Thanks, that's what I wanted to know.
Is there a simple way to leave the existing boot from flash alone and install everything on a 4 GB SDHC card ?
If so, how do I get Primo to boot ?

No, the mio (and navmans) are funny, you need to modify the start-up to run something else.
Also it's easy to get into difficulties like boot loops and loss of usb connectivity etc.
I recommend the mio_moov.zip unlock which boots to a desktop.

I thought it might be helpful to other users if I documented exactly what I did to get Igo Primo to work on the Mio
1. Run the mio_moov.zip unlocker from my PC with the Mio connected by USB. This is a program that installs a basic file manager under Windows CE and sets Windows to open showing a shorcut to the original Mio software (Smart ST). At this stage nothing has been changed except that the system boots to a screen with various options, such as file Manager, shortcuts to programs etc.
2. Download iGo-Primo 2.4-9.6.13 Complete Torrent which is the Igo Primo program with just enough content to test the software.
3. Copy the complete Primo2 folder to a micro SD card, I used 4GB.
4. Insert card in Mio and boot. In the boot window is a shortcut to SmartST (the old Mio software)
5. From the File menu choose FileManCE and find Primo2.exe on the storage card. Double-click on the file to start Igo.
6. I now had a working Primo system with no maps, so the next step was to download maps, I chose the ToTom Teleatlas
ones as recommended. These go into the Primo2 folder under Maps and NOT Buildings as stated in some instructions.
7. Make shortcut to Primo and add it to the start-up screen.
Many thanks to FatBoyFun for his help.

It works!
Thanks a lot!
The link to the maps is dead but some others can be easily found on the web...
