dvd unit

I know some people can get quite desperate whe it comes to having TT on the device but sometimes TT is not causing the problem.
The CE4.2 version can't be recommended because it is very hard to install and without tricks you can not save your favourites or addresses.
For the other versions you could say they work fine however most devices use programs in the background for the GPS data, the menu or parts of the CE funktions.
This can interfere with TT and Gamin too for that matter.
TT and some other GPS solutions were designed to run on PDA's - the reason is simple : on a PDA you have a complete CE system with all needed libraries and everything is already registered correctly.
Even if our modern CE based PNA's are not always have only GPS functions they are all using modified CE subsystems designed to run on their embedded system.
One big problem that comes with that is that many importand files and libraries are missing because the manufacturer does not need it for his purpose.
To make things worse they mostly remove vital parts of the CE core and include it into the program that runs the menu on the device.

To test a program that won't work on my CE systems I do two things :
1. I run the program inside the MS CE emulator - if it works there I know the program is ok.
2. I test for missing DLL files and calls to to other functions with a dependency scanner.
The scanner runs on my PC and lists all DLL files that the program needs, missing ones are listed red.
Same for call out these DLL files.

Igo and Primo for example run on almost everything because the manufacturer was smart enough not to depend on the CE core alone - they included almost everything the program could need.
For that simple reason they even work on very old devices like the Navman ICN series.

Some TT and Garmin problems can be solved with a mortscript, that includes the power saving settings, startng and killing the Explorer, register some files in the registry and so on.
One trick that helped sometimes is Miopocket - but not the complete suite, only the provided DLL files.
If copied into the folder of the buggy program you sometimes have the luck that these DLL files are used insted of the ones from your CE core.
I can not recommend installing Miopocket on a car DVD system as it would most likely permanently corrupt the whole system - except you can proofe that a reset deletes all changes to your CE core and gives you back the manufactures original settings.
Especially the fact that Miopocket writes into the flash memory (which can be too small) has caused problems in the past by overwriting vital files or because the user deleted the whole flashdrie after Miopocket stopped the installation dut to the fact that there was no more free space on the flash.
If you know the manufacturer of your device contact him and ask if they have an update for the device ;)
