darn... I have found the following navmans M400 (£45), M448 (£70) and F450 (£70)... which one would you recommend?
I am hoping you know how to unlock these unit.. is it a software or physical unlock?
Thanks again for your help

As I have an M400 I would suggest that one as I'm 100% sure it works, The Navman F45 is exactly the same hardware internally, it just has different branding, Mio spirit's have windows ce 6, so sick with the moov's
Once you've got tomtom installed you can also have igo primo 1.2 installed.

The correct unlock is idiot proof, problems arise when users start fiddling with things they shouldn't

You have two choices with Windows CE, 7.450 and 7.910 (The .cab files are for Windows Mobile)
7.450 runs on more devices than 7.910 and there really isn't any significant difference between them.
I have never got 7.910 to work properly on Mio's.
Windows CE and mobile only have basic versions of Tomtom. If you want TTS, ALG, IQ routes etc... Take a look at iGO.

thanks.. is iGO better than tomtom? I have always used tomtom so kind of used to it

It depends on what you want/need from the device.
Tomtom: Basic but easy to use and gets you from point A to point B with no fuss or drama, Updated regularly.
iGO Primo 1.2: The real 3D graphics and TTS pro really show off what the device is capable of, and has all the options like IQ Routes, TTS, ALG, Truck routing, etc... Not quite as intuitive as Tomtom and updates are not quite as common as Tomtom, and the programme can be a bit more complicated some times.
I have both installed and iGO is my default choice.
I find that Tomtom favours motorways and A-roads more than what iGO does.

i have followed in your great footsteps and have both on my unit now too :)

Remember the golden rule with Navman/Mio devices...
DO NOT DELETE, REPLACE OR RENAME APPSTARTUPSEC.EXE OR APPSTARTUPSEC.INI, OR ANY PARENT FOLDER, OTHERWISE YOUR DEVICE WILL FAIL TO BOOT AND FAIL TO CONNECT TO YOUR PC!!!Other than that enjoy your device
