Help! Orion OGPS-02 Touchscreen and Sound not working. Proba

Wed Aug 03, 2011 10:14 pm

Hi everyone!

I'm currently trying to repair my grandparent's Orion OGPS-02 handheld device running Windows CE Core 5.0. They reset it and it somehow screwed up the rom. I found a rom replacement and installed it. Now I have gotten it to boot to the windows CE gui and can use it through active sync remote desktop, but the touchscreen does not respond. It is not a hardware problem because it worked before. There is also no sound. I have access to the registry and have extracted the DRIVERS.BIN the rom I downloaded came with. There is a dll file called touch.dll inside the rom and it is also present in /Windows. I took a look at the registry through Ce Registry Editor and checked under Drivers that there is nothing relating to this touch.dll. Interestingly I can launch igo with my remote desktop and it can even connect to GPS sattelites, but no sound or touchscreen access. I tried re-calibrating to no avail. I have also attempted to make a random registry entry under drivers in the registry, but I am pretty sure I did this wrong. Could anyone help get the touchscreen and sound working? There really is no support for this device anywhere. I have been searching for 2 days now. Apparently the device is the same hardware as the Navon N460 for which I also have the rom. I can install that rom as well, but cannot get anywhere into the CE gui because it is in mass storage mode and I cannot set explorer.exe as an init entry. Oh also, to make this harder, everytime the system reboots, it clears any additional files that were placed into anywhere. It is pretty ridiculous. Any help is appreciated. I have the rom for both of these devices and can upload them if they are of any help. Just let me know what to do.

Thanks in advance!

I would say that the ROM's you installed do not have the correct drivers for the device hardware, You need to install the correct ROM image.

Thanks for the reply. The rom probably has some glitch, but I think it is the correct one... Maybe not. The file I downloaded, according to who I downloaded it from, is labeled OGPS-02 and the Navon N460 is an identical hardware device. If anyone else has a rom to an orion OGPS-02 or Navon N460 then please let me know. Another thing I want to try is to register/load or activate the touch dll in the registry myself, but I have no idea how to add that to the drivers there. Does anyone know how to do that or have another suggestion as I am still stuck and do not have/cannot possibly find another rom for this device.

Hi Hungry4Cheese!

Have you managed to solve your problem?
I have the same (or very similar) one.
I tried with vrokko's ROM images, but no touch. ActiveSync is working...

I managed to solve my problem. I used a ROM image for a DREIMGO DG210 to update the Orion OGPS-02. It is working almost fine, I can use it again, the touch is OK!. (there are only a few drawbacks: RTC doesn't work, so there is no clock until it finds the satellites, and no ActiveSync, as it uses USB mass storage mode)
