Help Required with Binatone F430 - Memory problem

Postby beelox » Fri Nov 22, 2013 11:51 am

Hi
I hope someone can help me with this issue as Binatone's customer service is appalling!

this is a bog standard F430 - no modifications made to any software maps etc.

Every time I try and enter a route to navigate to that is more than a few miles away the route calculation hangs at the last segment and then the following screen appears

Program Memory is very low,. You must select one task to close or increase the amount of programe memory, if available

then there is a radio button already selected that says Convert some Storage memory to programe Memory (you can use the System control panel to adjust memory later)

the ok button is frozen so you cant actually select this..the only way out of this is to hold the power button down and switch off

anyone got any ideas at all?

Thanks

Scroll down to fix for memory errors.

If that doesn't work then there's another thing you can try...

In that case find the file SHELL.ini, open it with note pad on your pc, delete what's already there and replace it with...

\windows\control.exe

Then reboot, start navigation, the control panel should appear, double tap System, then the memory tab, then drag the slider fully to the left and tap ok, dismiss any dialog box that may appear, close the control panel and turn off the device and remove the card.

That's how to fix the memory division problem manually.

ok - thanks for your help but unfortunately it still made no difference - the slider was already all the way to left - max memory being given to programs but still the same result

looks like its a fault with the chip?

I doubt it, the original software (turbodog) is terrible at best.

Put igo on it and turn a bad device into a great one.

I am sure i downloaded chas521’s igo8 from here

http://www.navitotal.com/showthread.php?6880-Igo8-March-16-2011

Plug the sat nav into your computer and either delete or backup the delete your Binatone software in the MobileNavigator folder. Unpack your igo8 download and copy it all to the Mobile navigator foler. Now in that folder you need to chane the SYS.TXT File slightly.

It will have

[folders]
app="%SDCARD%/iGO8"

at the start. Change that for

app="MobileNavigator"

Also the download may be set for a different resalution, change the[interface] to 480_272 and [rewdisplay] to 480 and 272. They are also in the SYS.TXT file.

Not sure if 100% needed but i left the base map in the content/map folder in the sat nav. On your SD card create a folder called igo and inside thatanother called contentandand in there one called maps. Put your maps in here.

Think this is my dropbox account for maps. You cam also add a POI folder for your POI’s

[Please Register or Login to download file]

I think thats it.

Oops sorry, forgot. In your igo8 download you will see a .exe file called iGO8.exe. You need to change the name to MobileNavigator.exe

Good luck, not that you will need it.

I did get the low memory warning on first use. I used the small reset button on the back of the unit. It rebooted OK and changed the skin to Kikker 3.2 and its been fine since.
