Medion 95900

Medion 95900

Postby PsychoBudgie » Fri Jun 14, 2013 5:17 pm

Got a Medion 95900 (210t or 210s, depending on where you look) at a boot sale for €1,50.
I know its old, but has anyone got a clue what navi software run on this.
All I get on start up is "Application not installed! insert sd/mmc......"
I tried the wince taskbar hack, it shows up briefly, then the before mentioned error screen appears.
I dont have the original disks, so any help would be appreciated.

The Medion 210T is the only device I "know" that fits the number, however 95900 ??. WinCE4.2, 64MB RAM, 256MB internal flash, 2.8 inch 320*240 screen and a 300Mhz processor. The Medions type 210 run Gopal builds 1 to 3, not newer ones unless you can flash the CE. (FYI: Latest Gopal is v7, needs CE6). On the plus side is a SD slot (not SDHC) so limited to 2GB and that it can run on 4 AA batteries
It's a very basic device, dated before 2008. (2007 and down).

Installation of a Gopal software would be peace of cake (sort of) however getting a working Gopal (assuming 3 or lower) somewhere is difficulty n°1, getting decent (read recent) maps is difficulty n°2.
Nevertheless, as a GPS software I would not recommend any Gopal (even v7) to anyone. TomTom is outdated. Navigon, one of the old ones, could be a possibility or Sygic. Maybe some more.

I would suggest you download iGO 8.3.5 (http://www.navitotal.com/showthread.php?10941-iGo-8.3.5-Minimal-for-low-power-devices-TBM) or primo 1.1 (http://www.navitotal.com/showthread.php?3558-iGO-Primo-1.1-8.5.11.155811-for-320x240-64MB-WinCE-4.2-devices).

On Medions the first thing that starts up is a file called menu.exe in root. So you must have a file on flash disk that is called menu.exe and starts up igo or Primo. Fatboyfun can help you out here with a simple mortscript.

Great, Thanks for the reply.
It was an "Aldi Special" they sold here in Germany a few years back. I've always used TT, so I'm new to igo, gopal, primo.
I'll give Igo a shot and if my head starts to hurt, I'll seek more guidance.
Thanks again

I have a Medion 210T, it runs Primo 2.0 with all enhancements and TTS perfectly, you will need to use a 2GB SD card and a script on the internal memory to set the memory division and start iGO.

Despite being old this is an excellent device and is almost indestructible.

When I get home I'll upload the files to go on the internal flash, plus instructions on what to do.

With this device you'll find the screen is a little on the small side and the sound isn't very loud, but the plus side it quite happily runs on AC power with no batteries installed and you just can't brick it no matter what you do to it.

Right, It's your lucky day...

This is what needs to go on My Flash Disk...
[Please Register or Login to download file]
And this goes on the SD card, Max 2GB!
[Please Register or Login to download file]

This is specifically for the Medion Gopal 210T!

Instructions!
Switch on device.
Connect device to PC with a standard mini USB cable, (You will need ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center)
Open My Flash Disk, find and copy config.sys to your PC, then delete it from device. (This holds the screen calibration data, when it is missing the device goes to screen calibration mode on reboot.)
Reboot device, use the reset button on the side.
When device has booted and has gone to screen calibration mode reconnect to PC and open My Flash Disk again.
Delete everything from My Flash Disk. (You need to be in screen calibration mode as Windows CE locks some files)
Copy everything from inside the My Flash Disk folder in the archive to My Flash Disk on the device.
Copy config.sys back to device, or complete the screen calibration if you'd rather.
Disconnect and reboot, eventually you should see an image of a SD card. the device now looks for \Storage Card\MobileNavigator\MobileNavigator.exe on boot, if it's not there it displays an insert card image.

Now find a suitable SD card, and copy everything from the Storage Card folder in the Storage Card archive to the SD card.
Add your required content to Primo from the iGO map section.
Insert card into device and reboot, set up Primo to your preferred settings.
Done!

Notes!
There is a Navigation\mnavdce.exe file on My Flash Disk, this is a dummy file that MUST be present, otherwise the device displays a horrible grey-scale default shell.
You can change the images, they are standard 320x240 bitmaps.

If you're adventurous, This device strips down easily, the battery holder can be unplugged, There is an external GPS antenna socket and the screen/digitiser is self contained and only connected by a ribbon cable, Also if the power button is stuck down the device turns on and off with external power (No batteries installed mind)

Makes it suitable for an in-dash build..?

The only file on the "My flash disk" was called "prefs" (configuration settings) no config.sys. Tried it with that and got no calibration screen on start up.

Its taken me three months to swap the clock bulbs in my car to led's. Building this into the dash would be a little too adventurous for me, plus whenever I take things apart I'm always left with "spare parts" when they're reassembled.

The 210T i'm talking about looks like this...

5491

However every medion i've come across uses menu.exe to boot, so it should still work, however i don't know the specs if it doesn't look like the above, you may have to use iGO 8 instead.

95900 (mdpna 200s) 64mb ram (from what I can find out from googling), so I guess igo8 is probably the way forward. have to find out what version though and give it another shot.
