OziExplorer and maps

Postby Downunder35m » Thu Feb 16, 2012 8:17 am

Since I got more and more requests from outside the forum I decided to convert my Australian maps to the current OZFX3 format used by OziExplorer.
This saves me a lot of time for the upload as the files are smaller and you have calibrated files that will even work on cheap CE systems.
The Otway and Toolangi map was scanned from paper and is fairly new.
The Lerderderg map was created from online sources.
All other maps are converted from the Hema 2008 collection - if you have the current version, please upload!

Spoiler: Show
General info - please read first!!]
1. This will be the last time I uploaded these maps, if you like them please consider providing a mirror for the original archives.
2. All maps have been combined into single files (where possible and where it made sense), calibrated and converted to the OZFX3 format used by OziExplorer.
The .map files are included.
3. In case you need the maps for other systems you can use Global Mapper12 to convert OFZX3 files (open the the corresponding .map files though) into other formats. -- Yes you can convert them, so don't be fooled by comments in other forums that the OZFX3 format is a secret and nothing can be done with it --
4. I tried my best to get a good calibration and to keep the original map datum and projection whenever possible. But be aware that the maps are considered to be guide and that I take no responsibilty if you notice in the middle of nowhere that a map is not working 100% and you have no backup on paper! Test the map of your choice before taking it on the road!!
5. The password for all files and links is : downunder
So please don't ask for it as I would have to assume you have been too lazy to read the instructions ;)

Just seeing if you have any ideas?

Hi,

Just seeing if anyone could help me with some Mortscripting?

I've recently bought a Chinese Gps off Ebay with WinCE 6 on it and Oziexplorer Ce 2.35a to run on it, it works perfectly but the only problem i have is everytime i exit Oziexplorer or restart my devicce I have to put in my registration details or the program closes everytime?! is there a way i could use a mortsript command and that inputs it for me??

Any Help would be most appreciated!

Thank you

That is not a mortscript problem and no Ozi problem either.
I think you might have the wrong installation path for Ozi.
If the system prevents Ozi from writing to the SD you will have the same problem.
And last but not least: if you use a non genuine registration on a device with internet access you should make sure that Ozi is not doing any "house calls", but I don't think that's the case here anyway.

You can not use a script to enter the registration details.

How do i find out if it is the system that is preventing writing to the SD card??

My device doesn't connect to the internet.

Than you for the info

If other software like IGO for example keeps the settings it will be fine.
Usually there should not be any write protection anyway.
What is the exact path for your Ozi installation?

If you got the watermark it means you have not registered Ozi correctly.
Either you have the wrong activation datails or Ozi is not installed in the correct path.
You can check the installation guides on the Ozi homepage.

Update:
Just to get it all in one posting...

The user precious donated quite a few maps for me to download and convert, so I can offer now most of the Hema 2011 collection :)
Also added my other maps.
Some of the Hema 2011 maps were protected so it was impossible to convert them directly into ECW maps or any other format for that matter.
I could solve that problem and also included these former protected maps into the ECW collection.
For all never ECW files the complete set of additional files are included so that you can easily convert them to other formats you might prefer.
I've also gone through the effort of converting all Hema 2011 maps into the new OZFX3 format which is faster and offers better quality.

[Please Register or Login to download file] These are all state maps as single maps
[Please Register or Login to download file] These are all state maps combined into one big map covering all of Australia.
I removed all borders around the maps and changed the projection to give a less distorted image.
You might notice some cut text or area where two maps were merged but all is matched perfectly by combining calibrated maps instead of stitching the pictures together.

This map is still in OZF2 format as I was not able to handle the huge amounts of data for a direct convertion.
Currently trying to find a usable way to remove the DRM protection and reduce the data so that I can convert the map properly.
The map uses over 17GB Ram if fully loaded which is preventing all normal ways of getting it into other formats.
So give me a few days to get that sorted, if you don't care about the improvements of the OZFX3 format you can use the above link, otherwise I suggest to wait until I can finnish the map in OZFX3 and ECW.

Now the maps that are not published by Hema:

Last but not least the maps I created:
[Please Register or Login to download file]
[Please Register or Login to download file]
It was created from the Garmin map found at[Please Register or Login to download file]
Since there is not much out there to convert Garmin vector maps into good raster maps I could only extract the roads and tracks not the user uploaded track logs.
You will notice that most names for tracks are missing, but that was the case in the original data.
From my tests the data seems to be accurate and almost complete.
I noticed that only open tracks are included but no management tracks of closed fire fighting tracks, which at least for me is not problem since you are not allowed to use those tracks anyway.
All of Australia is covered and I tried to get as close as I could to a proper 1:50000 scale factor.
The pixel scale is 1:10 meaning one pixel in the map equals 10m in the real world in 100% zoom.
To generate this data I had to convert over 300GB in BMP files, combine them, correct the colors and reduce the amount colors to finally create this ECW file.
I've done some tests and it looks really cool if you activate the 3D features in OZI or other mapping software, you need the terrain data though.
You can also use this map (or parts of it) to combine satellite images with the track infos, together with terrain data it gives a real realistic view of where you are in reality.

The OZFX3 map will take a bit longer as I only have 8GB of Ram and a slow QuadCore CPU, making map convertions painfully slow.
Once finnished I will share the OZFX3 map as well.
Be aware that I did not include a .map for the ECW map as I will upload a seperate map exclusive for OziExplorer.

I created this mapset from the V9.5 Bluechart pacific.
It is highly detailed and contains all signals, channel markers and depth info.
If I find the time I will update that map to the new Garmin G2 version.

does any one have the hema navigator hn5i or hn6i navigator. you can upgrade to new ezi ozi software. if so can someone upload a copy of the folder (hnozi) so i can trial new software before i spend my hard earned money on buying a unit. as the saying goes "always try before you buy".

The Hema software alone won't help as far as I know because it is bound to the device.
But for road navigation there alternatives like Igo, Primo, MN7 and so on.
EziOzi is only a "skin" for OziExplorer.
You find EziOzi and the manual here: [Please Register or Login to download file]

thanks downunder35m , i will have a look at this when i have more time. if this is only a skin ,it is not so important any more . i use primo 2 for my on road navigation and ozi-explorer for my off road. the hema navigator is still worth looking at as a whole unit as my current unit is old and needs to be replaced when funds are available.

They are all online, but on some servers FF is working currently.
Check the links in the browser and you can see the message Filefactory shows in case a file can't be downloaded.
