Running Tomtom on a Myguide 4228WE

Postby flopstocks » Sun Dec 11, 2011 1:27 am

Hi all I have a 4228WE which I whould like to get tomtom up and running on. I have previously done this on a Myguide 3218, Navigo's and F&H units but can't get it to work on the 4228WE widescreen model.

On the other units it was simply a case of putting the tomtom program in the mobilenavigator folder and renaming. When I do this on the 4228 it just fails to load, as if the program is not there. On the 3218 the program is stored on in internal memory, but on the 4288 it's on a 2gb card. I can get IGO8 to run on the 4228WE but would like Tomtom instead.

Any help would be appreciated

Can you start Total Commander on your device and then launch Tomtom manually?

I am unsure what total commander is, the main screen loads and when I click the navigation icon nothing happens. If I replace Tomtom with turbo dog or Igo8 the uint loads it fine.

I read from another thread that I should try version 7.450, my current version is 7.9. I hope this is the problem

As an update 7.450 loads :) However I am unable to activate the maps. I have uk versions 830, 860 and 870. Trying to activate using alberts easy activator, but they don't seem to work asthey would when using tomtom 7.9.

Any ideas?

Use the latest version of AutoActivate (from the tomtom sub forum) and use a separate card reader not the device connected via a USB cable.

Ok, I now have Tomtom loading but it's not working very well crashing out low memory errors etc. Seems to have the Win Ce6 problem, even though it's ce5. Wish I never seen yhis unit now, spent hours on this :-( The smaller 3218 model worked perfect with tomtom though .

Think I may end up leaving IGo8 on as this appears to work.

Unfortunately Tomtom can be picky about what devices it runs on.

A not enough memory error is usually a dll load failure.

I have found that the memory error happens when there is no route planned in the map. I always though this was a ce6.0 error, and was surprised to find this on the ce5.0 unit.

It does happen occasionally, tomtom relies on files within the Windows directory, sometimes these files are not as Microsoft intended.
