I am confused to which primo2 folder to rename to MobileNavigator?

That's my version from the Torrent download.
Extract the RAR file on your computer. You will then see a Primo2 folder with Primo2.exe inside of it.
The Primo2 folder (not the original RAR download file name) is what you are after, Then proceed as FBF says.
The TTS Voices and Skins folder contain optional add-on components that are not required to get the basic program to run.
They can be added later, if desired.

PS. From your screenshot, you are not seeing file extensions within Windows Explorer.
It will be much easier for you (and easier to help you in the future) if you enable the option to display file extensions.
But that's just my opinion..I could be wrong.

Thank you very much, as I thought, I just wanted to make sure before I proceed. I have just received the device and now awaiting the 2g micro sd card.

I have read somewhere on this forum that it is possible to point (within the settings) certain models of the Binatone to read the card first and bypass the preloaded software?

That's the point of the SHELL.ini file to load the new software instead.

Thanks FBF.

That's what I thought. I have also read what you wrote about using a shell. Do you recommend that I should/need to use one? Or is that the same as the SHELL.ini file?

This is where things start to get confusing...

By default Binatone's have a shell (frontend, launcher, etc) that appears when the device is turned on, this displays a disclaimer nag screen and then two buttons, one is to launch the GPS app and the other is for the device settings, this is in ROM and is started from the device software pre loader, It is possible to disable this with some dangerous registry edits which we don't recommend a newbie to attempt.

SHELL.ini just intercepts the navigation button and points it to the new GPS app instead of the original.

Also there is a shell.exe in ROM on the device which is a core part of Windows CE.

It's best to leave the original shell alone.

thank you for all your help. That's how I read it in your information just, wanted to make sure before I proceeded.

I have just tried to download the "UK & ROI Content pack" from the link you gave me and there doesn't seem a path to click on for download.

I ordered a 8GB sdhc card on the advice of Binatone technical support. They told me it would work as long as I didn't go above 16GB. I have since learnt from reading and advice from yourself that only a 2GB Micro sd card will work. I am now awaiting the arrival of the 2GB card

Drop back to the maps sub forum and find another link, You are looking for either Navteq or Teleatlas (Now called Tomtom confusingly) maps of Europe, Just pick the newest, Links do get refreshed every few days so it's worth checking dead links periodically.

When the card arrives i'll talk you through what to do, rather than try to explain it all now...

yes I understand that I have to transfer the necessary files on my computer directly to the card using a reader not directly to the device (with card inserted) using the USB cable?

this whole card compatibility is confusing and contradictory. I have read so many different conflicting stories that sdhc cards will work in some devices even If they state they only accept sd cards. It is so confusing knowing what will work with what?.

I read on one tom-tom Forum that you could use a sdhc card on a tom-tom device even if it's only accepts sd cards. They stated it would read the information on the sdhc card as long as you didn't try to write to it?

Thank you for the links to the maps which one do I need to download is it Navteq or Teleatlas?

I will come back to you once I receive the card.

thank you once again for all your help and patience. It is very much appreciated.

That is correct

Most Binatone's only use SD cards

Rubbish, but you can upgrade the bootloader in a Tomtom to accept SDHC cards

italianomale wrote:Thank you for the links to the maps which one do I need to download is it Navteq or Teleatlas?

Either, I prefer Navteq, Others prefer Teleatlas

Look forward to it

One final question then I will leave you alone for tonight.

I am downloading "Igo Maps Navteq Europe Q3.2011" do I need to download the whole eight parts?

Thank you.

Yes, And when all parts are downloaded, Place all the parts in the same folder on your PC and extract PART ONE ONLY!
