For modifying the BMP or creating a new one you can use any editing program, even ms paint.
For me, i use photoshop to create a new one and xnview to do the editing.
For hex editor, i use HxD.
As mention in rule no 1, make sure to compare the original header with the modified one as they will change once you save the modified or new one.
Please find the attached file a brief description of the the PSU/BMP structure. Please understand it in order to have a sucessful modification.

pgoh101 wrote:The black shadow in the picture is cause by the BMP having the shadow/masking property to make some part of the BMP transparent. You have to follow the guide to separate the BMP into two parts and modify them separately and the combine them again. This might seem confusing at first, but will be easier once you get the hang of it. Try it out, if not then I will upload another guide just for that.

" Then to save the masking BMP, you have to copy from offset 0x00h to 0x435h and paste to a new file and then copy from offset 0x2B47h to end of the file 0x5246h and append to the new file. Then save it as D2.bmp "
i see in your d2 file , hex address is 0x0000000 to 0x00002b35 , where is 0x2b47h to 0x5246h ?
when i only need don't use shadown, can't i delete some hex only?
