Completely.[color="#000080"]Thanks:[/color]This distribution was compiled by me from a vast number of sources...an EXE from here, a data.zip from there, voices and languages from everywhere, etc. Impossible to thank everyone individually, so [color="#000080"]thanks to ALL![/color]
Who should use this:If you have an older device with limited resources (such as
less than 64MB Ram or a slower processor), and need some Program Languages/Voices that may not be easy to find, then this is for you. No advanced features (
Text
To
Speech, etc) that may bog down an older device and cause a crash. Easy, simple setup. In my testing, nothing needs to be edited or changed except to add your own local maps. Specific devices may require a bit of tweaking, but try in it's current form first.
If your device is not so limited, and you want full TTS and other features, see here instead:

Installation Instructions:[color="#0000FF"]
--TBM[/color]
[SPOILER=See Instructions]Unrar the download on your PC.
Copy the entire "iGO8" folder as it is to your SD Card or device memory. Do not extract or unzip any of the files within the iGO8 folder.
iGO8.exe starts the program.
The iGO8 folder and the iGO8.exe file can be renamed to whatever your device or menu system would prefer.
Start the program and follow through with initial setup making all your desired choices. Only a BASEMAP is included so you can go through setup..this is NOT suitable for navigation. After setup you must install your local maps from here:
Maps-buildings-dem-POI[color="#FF0000"]Note[/color] that if you add Buildings, DEM files, and loads of POIs, you will defeat the purpose of this minimal install, and may crash the program on a lower power device.
If your device is NOT low power, and you have 64MB of RAM or more, you can happily add whatever you like.If you need/want speedcam files go here:
Languages-voices-speedcamsBut again,
keep it small...a huge speedcam.txt file may crash a lower power device.
If the program does not start up correctly with some error about "resolution", exit out, move the sys.txt file in the root of the iGO8 folder to your PC, open it in Notepad (do not use a "Word Processor"), and remove the semi-colon
- Code:
(;)
[B]Example:[/B]
Your device has 320x240 resolution.
Open sys.txt for editing.
[color="#FF0000"];[/color]resolution_dir="320_240"
[color="#FF0000"]Remove this.[/color]
So the line is now:
[B]resolution_dir="320_240"[/B]
in front of the line that corresponds to the actual resolution of your device. Save sys.txt, and copy it back to the root of the iGO8 folder on your device or SD Card and try again.
Once intial setup is complete and you have added your local maps, start iGO, go into Settings>Right Arrow>GPS...make sure "GPS Enabled" is checked, and tap the Autodetect button in the lower right corner. Let it scan...if you get "GPS receiver has been detected successfully", you should be good to go. Go outside in an area where there is a clear view of the open sky and wait for a satellite connection...this could take from a few minutes to 20 minutes or more. If it locks correctly, the map should zoom to your current location.
You are basically done! There is one Skin included with many more options to customize as you please...use it or not, but be aware that a third party skin (depending on the options chosen) may add additional memory load and stress.
To change skins, go to Settings>Right Arrow>Menu>Skin. If you change the skin, the system will need to restart. If it fails to start correctly, shut down the device, delete the SAVE folder within the iGO8 folder, and start all over....and do not choose that skin again.
IF you choose to use the included skin
AND you have a speedcam.txt file installed
AND you would like to have pre-recorded voice alerts (not TTS, and has little impact on performance), see instructions below.
The voice files were not included because the languages available are very limited.
[SPOILER=Speedcam Voice Instructions]
Go here:
[Please Register or Login to download file] Scroll about 80% down on the page until you get to the section:
[color="#B22222"]Speed Camera Voice Files Audio Folder:
[/color]Choose to download the Male/Female language of your choice from the
ULTRA VOICES column.
Unzip on your PC and copy the
voice_female and
voice_male folders to your iGo8>Audio>{correct language abbreviated folder}
For example, you download Audio_UK_English. Copy the two {gender} folders to iGO8>Audio>en.
Then start iGO, go to Settings>Warnings>Tick Speed Camera Warning>Tap the box to the right.
On the bottom bar, make sure Sound Files:Ultra is shown (if not, toggle it). In the middle right, tap
Lang: until it shows the Language that you downloaded/installed, then Tap
Type: to toggle between Female/Male. If everything is correct, you should hear a sample. Done. Keep tapping the Back Button to get to where you started.
