I just installed an xtrons dab/dvd/gps unit in my car it came with igo8 and 2014 maps. Is it best upgrade maps or other gps software. It is a wince6 unit. Is primo better than igo 8 or is difference not worth the hassle of changing over or is there a better software I could use which runs from microsd card

Personally, I think the iGo navigation software is the best available for WindowsCE. As to what is best between iGo8 and iGo Primo - it all depends on your exact needs and wants. iGo8 is a little faster and smoother, while Primo is a little more feature-rich.
Really, you need to try both for yourself and decide which is better for you and your needs.

My experience after doing this modding for many years is this. In most places in North America, iGO8 is the preferred navigation program. While in Europe, Primo is preferred. I found that in the US that Primo would take me on strange routes. I've also gotten PMs from Israel regarding Primo strange routes. I would suggest that you experiment with both to see what works best for you. Both have their advantages.

I wonder if using the Historical Traffic feature in Primo is the cause of the strange routing. I just recently switched over to Primo (from iGo 8) and noticed that I get some "strange" routing depending on what time of the day it is. I have a feeling it's trying to compensate for "historical" traffic patterns.
I'll have to try disabling it and see what happens...

In UK, use the TeleAtlas [Tomtom maps for Igo] mapset.

TT maps seem to be best for Europe but apparently not in every location. FYI, Garmin is Linux based and Igo is Windows based.

nuvi maybe but there is a wince/windows version

Garmin, like TomTom is one of the trickiest programmes to get running on wince.
If it doesn't work "out-of-the-box" forget it.

I'm kind of curious - I haven't explored any non-iGo GPS apps on WinCE for a couple of years. Do any of the other WinCE GPS apps even hold a candle to the iGo apps? When I explored them years ago, there really wasn't anything even close in terms of functionality or visual presentation....
Just curious if any of the other apps are even comparable to the iGo apps nowadays...

Only one way to find out: Test yourself.
Since we are different people is what you like not necessarily what I like.

NO!!! Actually, it really depends upon the geographical area. Not really is probably the best answer.
@shearer69
You're talking Garmin Mobile XT which is a Garmin basic program without TTS that only gets you from A to B. The WinCE version was developed from the Linux version. It is not recommended as is TT.
