Garmin Nüvi 760 stuck in bootloop...

Ok I think I did something wrong.
I have the OSM maps from the website [Please Register or Login to download file] and I had downloaded a new one like I did a million times before.
After copying it to my SD card I must of done something wrong because my Garmin Nüvi 760 is now stuck in a bootloop.

No problem I thought, I'll just link it to my PC and restore the backup. Ehhrr no.... I can't link it to my PC. There is no link icon on the little screen and it simply does not show up on my PC ?
Then I thought about the corner trick. You now, hold your finger in a corner (tried all four) and turn the device on so I could do a factory reset. Well, seems I can not turn if off ? It just keep booting ?
Maybe it is the battery ? So I waited for almost two HOURS to see it go dead due to an empty battery, charged it over night, but as soon as I basically touch it, it starts bootlooping again ???

<edit>I just got the bright idea to start without the SD card, but elas no difference.</edit>
<edit>Btw, when I was copying the map to the device (not the SD card) it was TERRIBLY slow. 0,3 Mbit/s.</edit>


What can I do ? It just keeps looping and looping and looping and looping and looping and looping and looping and looping and looping and . . . . .

Small update :
I had the "brilliant" idea of restoring my backup onto the SD-Card.
When I now start the device, it actually boots. There are however a number of things wrong :

• It does not see the map, even the original Garmin map is not present

• I can not change the voice, it says "Non found"

• Also can not change the text from American English to my native language

• Vehicle can not be changed

Is my device børked and should I go out for a new one ???
If anyone could hint me in the right diection I'd much appreciate it.

If the device boots consistently now then it should also again have PC Mass Storage Mode access as well. If so you should remove the map you'd installed immediately before the device malfunctioned. Then connect to GarminExpress to replace missing files or restore them from a 'known-good' backup.

If the boot was a one-off 'fluke', due to the corrupt map not being loaded along with any other IMG files (nuvi 7 series do that occasionally even when healthy, it's just a usually inconvenient glitch that in a bootlooping device becomes a positive thing when a faulty file preventing a full boot-up is skipped over in the boot-cycle), then you will need to load Cure firmware to regain Mass Storage Mode. In that case you'll need to make cure firmware so search for the tool named "GarminCure3" or post again and me or someone here will make it for you.

EDIT: Forgot to mention about accessing preboot in nuvi 7xx devices (warning, they're a bit of a pain). The spot to hold on the screen is usually the top RIGHT as you look at it, opposite to most automotive devices which are top left. These devices also usually do not show 'Loader' on the screen when in preboot, but the logo will stay steady on the screen with no copyright or map info print as when in a normal start-up cycle. Also the time preboot's held can be a low as 10 seconds if a flash is not commenced but that period could be up to 30 secs depending on firmware loaded. After that period the device will hold preboot if data transfer commences or it'll default to the white calibration screen with back dots if there's no flash successfully commenced. The best way to do the procedure is to start with the device fully OFF. Because it's bootloooping, you should be able to force it off by holding the power button to the left until the screen goes completely black. Otherwise disconnect the battery. Then proceed EXACTLY as follows to flash it with cure fw using Updater.exe:

• Load the cure RGN file to Updater.exe by dragging the file onto the exe file itself or its shortcut icon, when the Graphic User Interface opens select the "USB Device" radio button and leave the GUI open and visible on the PC's desktop with the mouse cursor positioned ready over the "OK" button (don't use a Mac or Linux OS for this, even an old slow XP system will be fine but try not to use a laptop);
• Plug a miniUSB cable's A plug directly into a REAR USB2 socket of the PC tower (avoid USB3, a hub or front port);
• Hold the nuvi in your left hand with your THUMB (not finger) firmly pressed in the top right corner of the screen;
• Plug the miniUSB end into the nuvi and immediately move your right hand to slide the power button to the right (locked) position and then quickly onto the mouse while watching Updter's GUI for the device detail to appear in the window next to "USB Device" on the GUI;
• IMMEDIATELY the window is populated, left-click the mouse or just hit the PC's enter key and keep firmly holding the nuvi screen, preferably until the flash finishes or at least until a few seconds after 'Software Loading' or similar message appears on the screen indicating that the flash has commenced;
• Wait until Updater gives a 'success' message indicating the flash has been completed.

With cure fw loaded the device should connect to the PC in MSM to allow you to remove the corrupt map IMG file.
