Search the web for "
garmin cloning method", variation of this procedure permits unpatched MapInstall users to similarly save the generated IMG file onto USB
/hard drive just as easily...

The well known "Garmin Cloning Method" described on the web allows the GPS update output from Garmin Express to be copied to a USB flash drive instead of the GPS. I do not see a cloning method that takes the compiled Mapinstall output/gmapsupp.img file to be written to a folder on your computer hard drive. Perhaps I am missing something.
I agree with you comment that Garmin appears to be organizing their updates to cause a significant amount of grief for older GPS units.

You're absolutely correct! I've misspoken, unpatched MapInstall send IMG files only to a USB/SD with 'cloned' credential.

MapSource has been deprecated for over a decade now!
The MapInstall version that was bundled with the last version of MapSource has been problematic and buggy since it's not current. Don't know if that's the cause of the street-name display issue, but you should download, install and use the latest version of MapInstall:
[Please Register or Login to download file] FYI and good luck!
The problem/feature with older GPS units and the map versions newer than 2022.25 has been documented in numerous posts on this site and others. Though not officially confirmed by Garmin, it appears to be an effort to make obsolete the older units.
So this is what I do. I have NUVI with lifetime maps update. I use Garmin Express to download fresh map and save it on NUVI AND on Computer.
Then I run install program from computer to install map into MapSource. Open MapSource, use keygen, unlock map. Then upload region I want/need to my Legend. Up to 2023.10 everything worked perfectly. As of 2023.10/20 street names are scrambled.
I did try to use MapInstall but it says map is NOT unlocked. So it looks like keygen works only for MapSource. I used to use (patched) MapSource only to load unlocked map to my Legend and for nothing else.
Now, how can I unlock map, use MapInstall and upload it to my Legend???
Any advice and suggestion will be much appreciated!

Hi, I don´t know if this is the place, but here I go: I got a new machine with AMD Ryzen 9 5950X with cores: 16 and threads: 32. When I tried to run Mapsource, it gives me an error. The error is refering to a cpu. So, what I did was going into bios, disable threads, save and reboot. Now, show cores: 16 and threads: 16. If I run Mapsource, runs flawlessly. I can do whatever I want and then exit in the proper way. So, I can´t go everytime that I need mapsource into bios, disable threads, reboot and run Mapsource. After that, go into bios, enable threads and reboot. Then, the question: is there a workaround for this?, like a command line into cmd that disable threads (from software), run mapsource with windows 7 in compatibility mode and when exit, restores the threads? Does mapsource have a command line that overrides threads? A mapsource patch the prevents that?
I hope you could help me.
Thanks in advance
P.S. I don´t want to use Basecamp.

Hey all,
On my old Zumo 210 I managed tot install the City navigator
Europe NT 2024.1. The device is working perfectly.
However I have currently Basecamp installed (v 4.7.4 and also copied the patched .exe), but I seem to be unable to import the 2024.1 map into the basecamp program.
When the Zumo is connected tot my laptop I can both see my older 2012.1 and the new 2024.1 maps, but since the device only has a usb mini connection, it is extremely slow, to slow.
Is there a way to place the 2024.1 map on my laptop, so I no longer have to use my extremely slow device?
edit: I directly put my sd card into my laptop sd slot. Works great, problem solved.

Use the Microsoft installer (MSI) or just copy the City_Navigator_Europe_NT_2024_10.gmap folder to C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps to use with Mapsource/Basecamp.
