Universal Firmware Patcher for Protected Garmin Devices

Hello everyone,

I purchased 2 of these unit on ebay and I was wondering how I can go about replacing the current outdated map with a current one.

It's a DriveSmart 50LMT with the following part number 006-B2267-00. The current map is "City Navigator North America NT 2016.20"

I've done a master reset, the unit doesn't seem to have a pin code lock and I'm also capable to uncheck Restricted Mode. The unit is allows update but doesn't allow to have the existing map updated, according to Garmin Express this unit is up to date. attached is a screen shot and as you can see within Mapinstaller app the installed map is grayed out, unable to uncheck it to make room for a new map. both units have the same issue. any help to the right direction would be appreciated.

Normally LM is Lifetime Map updates using Garmin Express, both of your device have lost their LM subscription

although I have seen some device loose their free updates because they have not been updated for [Please Register or Login to download file] .
You will need to use Unlocked maps ,with these devices ,they will require Patching first to use Unlocked maps.

I patched my Garmin Drivesmart 61 two years ago and yesterday decided to try to use it but I updated it by mistake and now all my unlocked maps are reported corrupt and unreadable. I honestly forgot how I patched it the first time and installed the unlocked maps.

OK. I've read (or at least skimmed) all 1116 posts in this topic to make sure I know as much as possible and am up to speed on the latest information. I've downloaded what seems to be the the latest kit, v220_200120, which takes care of my GPSmap 62 and 64.

Is there a later kit, or a dedicated kit for the GPSmap 66sr (006-B3694-00)? I've found a patched version of the latest firmware but like the idea of being able to do my own patching in the future.

I would really appreciate some help with having a friends Nüvi 2789 to be able read all unlocked maps if possible. I spent now a couple of hours trying to figure this out and downloading multiple maps without success.
Also tried to search for the HW id. but the only result came back with a request and no solution.

I have tried everything that has been suggested to patch my 2689LMT to read unlocked Aussie maps to no avail.

I read that FW 8.80 may need to be downgraded to 8.70 first, but I have searched everywhere and I cannot find it. Does anyone have a link to 8.70 for 1772?

reading through the forum how to unlock my Nuvi 2689 I got lost in a lot of information. If someone could help me by sending me a link or a description of how to enable my device to read unlocked maps.

Note: you don't need any firmware downgrade, as I forced version to 8.81

If possible, a few more clarifications:
- how to check if the patch succeeded (record in .xml file or something like that)
- in which folder to put the maps and what name must they be (while I was dealing with Garmin a long time ago, they had to be gmapsupp, gmapprom, gmapsup2)
