Universal Firmware Patcher for Protected Garmin Devices

I don't think a patched version of V6.70 has been posted here but little has changed since V6.20 anyway. From the Garmin firmware download site:
Code: Select all
Change History:
*Changes made from version 6.60 to 6.70:
Improved software stability.
*Changes made from version 6.20 to 6.60:
Added support for a new digital traffic provider in Germany.

So you could simply downgrade to patched version V6.20 if you retained the files (i think there's still a working link in FireFox58's post here for V6.20 anyway). Otherwise, he has since posted in another forum the patched files for V6.70, see behind spoiler below for link:

Note: All credit to Firefox58. I haven't tested either of those patched firmwares and even though they're not made by me (i won't do that because of Garmin's strict EULA), i do however have great confidence in FireFox58's ability.

My device is Garmin Dezl 770 in which there is a map of America

<PartNumber>006-B2002-00</PartNumber>

<SoftwareVersion>510</SoftwareVersion>

<Description>dēzl 770</Description>

Garmin Express offers a software upgrade to the 550

I have tried newst NTU 2023.10 European maps to SD Card, but device is not recogznizing those maps with statment that maps are interruped and not usable. I would be very thankful if someone has the solution for this, thanks in advance.

Hi folks,

Firstly, really sorry that this forum is closing. It's one of the best resources on the internet, you've all worked so hard to make it a great place. Perhaps we shall meet again?

The subject: Can you help with a Dezl 580, HWID 2826 please before the forum closes for good?

I have searched and there was one other request for this pack but the download is dead.

Once again, many thanks for creating such a fantastic resource for users on the web, it has been a fantastic forum, especially for those of us who cannot use Facebook etc.

Cheers, Bro

Garmin Drive Smart 65

Postby soidog2 » Fri Oct 28, 2022 1:25 pm

Is it possible to transfer an unlocked map from an older "nuvi" to a "drive smart 65".
Looking at the file system, its different on the two units.
Any help, much appreciated.

Well yes you can 'transfer' it as in copy it over, but it won't work. Even though unlocked. the map .img file won't show up other than the DriveSmart 65 will display a message on boot stating "Maps are corrupt....." or similar words. The problem is that many modern Garmin devices either have encrypted firmware running on proprietary Garmin OS or they run a form of Linux and the latter is used by DS55/65. Whether using encrypted Garmin fw or Linux OS the problem remains that currently that there's no patch solution available publicly for those devices' firmwares.

BTW, the file system is identical on modern Garmin devices whether running Garmin OS or Linux.

Re: how to import eu maps on garmin drive 52

Postby miroslavkrle » Sat Nov 12, 2022 4:23 pm

can someone help me step by step to install eu maps on garmin drive 52,
Device xmlns="http://www.garmin.com/xmlschemas/GarminDevice/v2" xmlns:dtlx="http://www.garmin.com/xmlschemas/GarminDeviceExtensions/DataTypeLocation/v1" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.garmin.com/xmlschemas/GarminDevice/v2 [Please Register or Login to download file] ">
<Model>
<PartNumber>006-B3061-00</PartNumber>
<SoftwareVersion>970</SoftwareVersion>
<Description>Garmin Drive 52</Description>
</Model>
Moderator Note
For a few years newer device's firmware could be patched (determined by their HWID) to use unlocked maps, since the DriveSmart 65 the firmware has been encrypted on these later devices.
Unfortunately it looks like Drive, DriveSmart 52,55,65,66,71,76,86, zumo XT ,Alpha 200i, Montana 700 are all in the same category.
No solution as the Universal Firmware Patcher does not recognise the new encrypted format.

Hi all!
Is this a JNX patch? Has anyone tried it? Is there any problem with it?

I have a problem with the Nuvi 55 LM currently has old software 5,20 and HWID 1697, it won't start the system normaly, starts up and when you hit OK afther WARNING message it simply shuts down. If i leave and not the press OK hes OK and giv me cople massage its unreadable maps like when is unpatched and you put copy maps. And what is interesting I can go true menu normally but if I hit map on screen his shot down.
I wanted to connect to garmin express but the garmin express program doesn't recognize it. My computer recognizes it normally and I can access every folder.

Does anyone know what the problem is and how to at least update the software because it .It would help me if you installed a larger software, but via SD card, as when I'm doing a patch, if anyone has software 5.60, please leave a link. I would try abdeyt software and then patch and maps. I think I'm missing any maps and it shuts down.

It would also solve the problem if he managed to connect to garmin express, if anyone knows the solution, leave a message.

Installed on 66i with 9.20 already present. Just dropped gupdate.gcm to garmin folder on device. Works great! Absurd that we need patched firmware just to use free unicode maps generated from OSM... Thanks alot!

UPD: for some reason different post was quoted... I mean this of course, 9.20 for 66i: software/universal-firmware-patcher-for-protected-garmin-devices-t17987-1050.html?hilit=3284#p187123
