I was unsure about my gupdate.gcd file being missing so I got off the web a gupdate.gcd file for ver. 5.90. I ran it through the patcher, rgntool and then used the updater to install onto the device. When doing the update the device indicated it already had that version 5.90 and if I wanted to use my new version and I indicated yes. All loaded well.
I started the device without any SD Card in it and my current installed version map NE States (2020.10) loaded and no errors. I connected to computer and found again there was NO gupdate.gcd file to be found.
I loaded my SD Card with the previous maps I had on it before the update recently (which had worked fine). Using a newly formatted SD Card and creating the Garmin folder I put the same files in there North America (2018.30). I installed the SD Card into device and maps worked fine no errors.
I then removed SD Card and installed the North America (2020.10) maps and ran the maps through the unlocker to ensure maps were unlocked. I then installed those files on the SD Card after having reformatted the SD Card again and then with only the 2020.10 maps files on the SD Card.
I then installed the SD Card into the device and started it up. Device loaded fine indicating updated maps. No errors and checked installed maps and the new maps were seen as installed.
So all has been corrected/working and I am a satisfied user again. My question is the fact that there is still NO gupdate.gcd file to be found in the ,System folder. Not sure if anything has changed with the recent software version or not or for whatever reason my device just does not want to retain it like before with previous software versions.
Thats it and perhaps someone can comment on the missing gupdate.gcd file.
