I just bought a Drive 51 LMT-S EU. This device is not in the file provided in the first post. Where do I find the HWID?
Once I know the HWID I will look for the SD-Card updater (so any help is also appreciated).
Or is the 2586 in the partnumber the HWID. Then I already have all the files and information (just 3 or 4 posts above mine)....
Thanks a lot

Got it. I found the description for the HWID.
But now I'm struggeling with the unlocked maps.
They worked on my old nuvi, but I am not able to get them running on the drive 51 (I tried different folders: "/garmin/map" ; "/garmin" ; "/map"; also different naming of the file: "gmapsupp.img" ; "usa_2019.10.img" and so on.
Ist here someting else I can do?

Update:
I copied the file to the internal memory. Works like a charm, so the img is working, but not from the memory card.
Welcome to the forum, seems you had a good read and worked out your HWID from the garmindevice.xml and Patched your device
.
If you are going to update I would use the latest 2020.20 maps

Hi GarmanNuvi,
I only have the .img files. None of the files with other extensions.
I had placed them in the /Map folder, completely rebooted the device, but no Maps (in this case US-Maps) show up. The same .img in the internal memory (instead of the .img file with europe-maps) works.
Do I need the other files and can I create / download them. I only got the .img files from the net.

It would be unusual not to use all the additional files on your newer device,as you would not have any of the latest features,The list of files are for N.America 2020.20 and for your device specifically
Maybe you are renaming the gmapprom.img to gmapsupp.img
.img by accident because you cannot see the extension ?

Hi garmannuvi,
the file does only have one .img on the end. I always have my computer to show the extension.
And the file works in the main memory, so the file itself should be okay.
I am now on trip in the US, so no time to poke around. At the moment it is working, so do not touch a running system, if you need it.
One other thing though: Do I need to apply the firmware patcher again, once I installed the recommended software update from garmin or is the patch still there after updating?

The Firmware that was Patched is the latest version 6.20 so any other updates will not effect it,I also advance the version slightly so Garmin Express won't just overwrite it.
Have a good trip and we'll see whats going on with the SD card when you get back.

Your device downloads the correct Firmware update(gupdate.gcd)with Garmin Express.
It is important you identify your HWID from the garmindevice.xml as not all models with the same name have the same firmware

Why HWID is so important?
Yes if you put firmware for different HWID you may broke your device

Thank you for your information. So every time Garmin has an update for my gps, I need a new patched firmware !
To install gps firmware updates, I don't use any Garmin software ( no need to ). I update my gps manual/myself ( rename the file to 'Gupdate.Gcd' and copy the file in the ..\Garmin directory ). Or can/must the patched firmware
only be installed by Garmin's WebUpdater ?
Is it possible to download the FirmwarePatcher myself and patch my own files ?
And my last question
: Could you please give me the link to the patched firmware.
Regards and many thanks

If you want to DIY then start reading this thread all the knowledge has been shared.
IMO if your device is doing what you want and working well, just skip a few updates.
You can see for yourself that many won't effect you

Thank you very much GarmanNuvi, the file of the firmware patched work well. I only change the process to install it because Webupdater doesn't work for me. I rename the file of the firmware in GUPDATE.gcd and copy it to the /Garmin directory and reboot the gps. I can see all maps now. It was only new unlocked maps like topo Deutschland v9 that I couldn't see, olders was ok.
Thank you again ;-)

<Description>DriveLuxe 50</Description>
I received an SD-bootable firmware patch for the DriveLux50, but the patch doesn't work. While the firmware flashes correctly, but the device still complains about "Maps are corrupt and cannot be used".
And, yes, I tried the following:
- Downloading the map to the device directly instead of an SD card
- USB and SD card flash of firmware
- using an unlocked img
- trying unlocked maps via Mapsource and Mapinstall
So far, no luck Any suggestions?
Thank you in advance!
