Universal Firmware Patcher for Protected Garmin Devices

Re: recent Garmin gps mapping installation

Postby tera2000 » Thu Sep 03, 2020 4:33 am

Good morning all,
yes it is true that I did not specify, it would be for the Topo V5 France cards, my device is the new Montana 700, and the FID: 7453, or the Topos CN Europe NTU fid: 4813 cards,
I will read the link you give me, I tried a lot of tips that I used and that worked, but with recent gps this is no longer the case, my Monterra and Oregon 750 supported 64 maps go and I could quickly patch ALL the cards, but this is no longer the case now, on Montana, it only accepts 32gb cards and it no longer wants some patched cards apart from the Osm, some Garmin cards however work, for example "Mountain" cards
HWID is in your garmindevice.xml
<PartNumber>006-B3484-00</PartNumber>
<SoftwareVersion>270</SoftwareVersion>
<Description>zūmo XT</Description>

Unfortunately it looks like Drive, DriveSmart 52,55,65, zumo XT ,Alpha 200i, Montana 700 are all in the same category.
No solution yet as the Universal Firmware Patcher does not recognise the new format.

Invalid Birdseye .jnx fles.

Postby hiker999 » Thu Sep 03, 2020 10:44 am

I have an Etrex 30x and have downloaded a few Birdseye aerial images.
I have saved them to sd card and they open in Basecamp but show as invalid jnx file if I copy them to my device.
Ive searched Etrex 30x, Birdseye, Basecamp and jnx looking to find a way to get round the Invalid file message but I can't find anything.
I there a way to make the jnx files valid so that I can install them on the device?

Search results "JNX"
eTrex 20x/30x | 2250 | 300 | MAP: Yes | GMA: Yes | MSV: Weak | GVS: --- | File: eTrex20x_30x_Webupdater__300.gcd
MSV: Weak - it verifies the validity of map signatures in a simple way, you can unlock an .img using gimgunlock-0.04 (without patching your firmware), but in case of unicode maps (CP65001) you must modify the CP value
Your device can be Patched for Birdseye JNX this one also fixes MSV Weak
This board requires you to be registered and logged-in to view hidden content.

Download and unpack, eTrexXXx_XXx_Webupdater__XXX_JNX.gcd to your PC where your device is attached.
Then you drag-and-drop eTrexXXx_XXx_Webupdater__XXX_JNX.gcd onto the WebUpdater icon on your desktop.
The Firmware will be flashed on Device
Warning:
Be sure to remove All BirdEyes images (JNX files) already present on device before apply the Patch
BirdEyes images can be restored after patch is applied.

Welcome to the forum.
This board requires you to be registered and logged-in to view hidden content.

Make sure your device is fully charged.
Unpack contents to fresh SD card formatted FAT32
Ensure your device is fully OFF (not in standby), insert the card in device and power on.
"Loader" will appear on screen for a while then the device will boot up when the flash of patched firmware is complete.
Your device may reboot its self during the process just be patient.

Your SD card will have a new file named 154.bin this is a backup of the device's non-volatile memory region and may save your device later if needed,so keep a copy of it somewhere safe.
Final step

Hello,

I have an Alpha 100 and a supposedly unlocked map. However when booting up the device it says "Cannot unlock maps". What do I need to do to unlock a map for an Alpha 100?

@martincb
Alpha 100 (HWID 1562) has 'weak' MSV protection in firmware, so can use maps with Code Page 1252 (Latin) unlocked with latest gmunlock but need fw patching to use CP 65001 (Unicode) unlocked map data although there are workarounds for that too.

The screen messages when you load incompatible maps have a sense however. "Cannot unlock maps" generally means there's at least one map tile in the data which hasn't been unlocked. "Maps are corrupt and cannot be used" message means that the device needs patched fw to use the map, or the map data has to be manipulated for a 'weak' protected device to use a map with unicode data.

Use GMapTool to check the map data. You may simply need to run gimunlock.exe again to fully unlock it if it's exclusively CP1252 data.

Only when you have confirmed the HWID 2586
you can use this SD card Patch kit

How do I unlock this for my Alpha 50 unit? I have tried the included gimgunlock, but Alpha 50 still says my map is locked. I dragged the .img file on gimgunlock when the file before and after transfering the file to my SD-card.
