SD Card Kit
Make sure your device is fully charged.
Unpack contents to fresh SD card formatted FAT32
Ensure your device is fully OFF (not in standby), insert the card in device and power on.
"Loader" will appear on screen for a while then the device will boot up when the flash of patched firmware is complete.
Your device may reboot its self during the process just be patient.

Your SD card will have a new file named 154.bin this is a backup of the device's non-volatile memory region and may save your device later if needed,so keep a copy of it somewhere safe.

Hi!
I am quite new in this, so I got a very cheap Drive 40 on eBay. When I received I notice there was a message on the start "Cannot unlock maps". I use the patch this patch and I installed successfully (I think) the City Navigator Europe NT 2020.20 FID 8231 from this topic:
new-maps/city-navigator-europe-2020-fid-8231-t21499.html

The maps are working well, but the "Cannot unlock maps" message is still showing up when I restart the device. Is there any way I can fix this?
Thank you in advance for your help :037:

By the way just in case, the info from my device after the patch is:
<PartNumber>006-B2267-00</PartNumber>
<SoftwareVersion>600</SoftwareVersion>
<Description>Drive 40</Description>

Edit: Thanks Garman Nuvi, no more "Cannot Unlock maps" message.

It seems that the Garmin Protected devices list URL is down. I am trying to figure out why my Nuvi 350 is not reading map files from the SD card slot.

Your device HWID 0476 does not require Patching,as a rough guide any device below HWID 1697 does not, but unfortunately older devices like yours are unable to read .img files bigger than 2GB so check your map file size

Thank you so much I did not know that, I guess it has to do with the formatting system of the file.
My newer NUVI had no problems with the .img file but this older one has a neat Mp3 player so I plan on using it more.

Re: Universal Firmware Patcher for Protected Garmin Devices

Postby Impact123 » Wed Jul 01, 2020 4:04 pm

I bought my first Garmin. It's a used 64s which came with a Garmin card with a older TransAlpin Map. This can be activated.

The last days i was investigating how to get into use of two images:
- Topo Deutschland v9 PRO
- Topo TransAlpin+ PRO

But everything i try was without luck. The main error i get is that the device always tells that the "cards are not enabled". The error message also appears since today on the Garmin branded card which is kinda weird. But i can activate them in menu. This isn't real when i use a 32GB Sandisk which is filled with either one of the two Topo cards. Same error message but without any ability to see them in menu for activation.

What was done so far:
- the Garmin 64s was patched on the very first day with Garmin Express to latest Firmware 5.60.
- then i did a deep dive and patched the 5.60 gcd with GFWP 2.20 firmware patcher and installed the firmware by renaming the patched firmware to gupdate.gcd and put it onto internal memory - reboot - firmware flashed - still the same error.
- then i tried the same but with older 4.20 gcd. Same procedure - reboot - still the same error.
- the i tried the same with both gcd versions but instead putting the patched gcd onto internal memory, i went the route using webupdater 2.5.7 to flash the 64s directly. Still the same error.
- i downloaded the different gcd versions which i was patching afterwards from here: [Please Register or Login to download file]
- both maps mentioned above have two .img files (beside other stuff) in the Garmin directory. I always drag the img files and drop them over gimgunlock-0.04. Then i was copying the whole Garmin directory of either one map mentioned above onto the 32GB SD card.
- the 32 SD card was previosly formatted in FAT32. But i also tested ExFAT - no difference - still the same error.
- i also checked the current firmware versions after installing a new patched gcd on the GPS device. The version always matched. Doesn't matter if i've down- or updated the device.

I don't know what to do more. I'm kinda lost. I don't know but do i have to certify or patch the SD card (hardware!) to be able to use it after patching the firmware, and patching the imgs on the device?
Please help. :022:

Confirm device patched by checking in your garmindevice.xml SoftwareVersion will be 562
<PartNumber>006-B1859-00</PartNumber>
<SoftwareVersion>562</SoftwareVersion>
<Description>GPSMAP 64s </Description>
After Patching you will be able to use Unlocked maps placed in a Garmin folder on a FAT 32 formatted SD card.

Re: Universal Firmware Patcher for Protected Garmin Devices

Postby Impact123 » Thu Jul 02, 2020 8:23 pm

I red this thread already. I used the patched 5.60 firmware mentioned in the thread backlog, and copied via latest webupdater to the Garmin 64s.
The firmware installation succeed but the SD card lock message still appears while booting, even with the orignal Garmin card, but the Original cards can still be activated. The most weird thing is still that the non Garmin Fat32 formatted 32GB card with dozen time patched .imgs isn't recorgnized inside the GPS device at all.
It only says on boot that the SD card is locked. Nothing to activate by selecting the patched maps in menu.
So the situation is still the same.

The internal memory is almost empty. There're just some files of around 500MB in one directory.
The Garmin branded SD card has more directories and files.
I also found the GarminDevice.xml on the SD card, not on the internal memory if this is maybe important for you.
I was fishing this data out of this endless stuffed xml:

<PartNumber>006-B1859-00</PartNumber><SoftwareVersion>561</SoftwareVersion><Description>GPSMAP 64s</Description>
