You can 'force update' the ECHOMAP Plus/UHD 7x/9x by turning off the unit and then starting it by pressing the '4' button and power button at the same time and keeping them pressed until 'recovery region loading - recovery loader ready' text is shown on the display. After that you can release both buttons and the unit will now load the software from the SD card.

Hello,
One question: Can Garmin see when studying the GPS file, what it asks me to check what is not working regarding the Galileo satellites, that we have a patched version of the firmware to read IMGs and JNXs? Thank you for your answers.

They won't know anything if you haven't changed the name or firmware version in the patcher settings.

I leave the firmware number as the origin of course, but that must change a few bytes in the file?

In addition, you should not uncheck the "Don't change the About page and the firmware version name" checkbox in the patcher settings.

Don't confuse the .gcd firmware file with the GarminDevice.xml file that is being asked for ...

The Patched Firmware you used was advanced in the Patcher, if you are returning the device to Garmin just reinstall the original firmware.
There is no file size change as you can see.

Hello,
I am not returning the 66sr to Garmin but some files from the 66sr as mentioned by Garmin below:

"Windows
Connect the Garmin device to the computer.
Press the Windows key + E on the keyboard to open Windows Explorer/File Explorer.
Select This PC (Windows 10 only).
Open the Garmin drive listed.1
Right-click the Garmin Folder and select Copy.2
Right-click on the Desktop and select Paste.
Double-click the new Garmin folder on the Desktop to open it.
Delete or drag any Disk Image Files (.img files) to the Recycle Bin.
Delete or drag any folders with names BirdsEye, Custom Maps, GGZ, JPEG/JPG, or Voice to the Recycle Bin.
Close the Garmin folder window.
Right-click the Garmin folder on the desktop.
Select Send to.
Select Compressed (zipped) folder.
Attach the new Garmin.zip file on the desktop to an email reply to Product Support."

Here is the GarminDevice.xml:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
-<Device xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.garmin.com/xmlschemas/GarminDevice/v2 [Please Register or Login to download file] " xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns="http://www.garmin.com/xmlschemas/GarminDevice/v2">

ETC.........................

Nothing in this files says I have modified firmware, there is no GUPDATE.GCD file.

Yes still works to Unlock .img files, but some devices require patching to use unlocked maps and other later devices cannot be Patched
Not seen can't use the card ,only "Can't Unlock Maps" or "Can't Authenticate Maps"
Give more detail about the device and map then we can point you in the right direction

Software to create "Updater" file to unlock Garmin units

Postby ozwide » Fri Nov 19, 2021 4:05 am

Hi guys,
What a great forum this is so much information. I am a newbie to this forum so please excuse me if I ask a simple question.
Can someone please point me in the right direction please?

I am looking for software to create an "Updater" file that is used to unlock Garmin units. I am not sure if it is software or a tool?
Any help would be very much appreciated.

All the best and thank you.
Rob

@ozwide
I moved your post here, hardly a "newbie" I spent a lot of time via PM helping you with Australia & New Zealand maps and explained about Unlocked maps and devices that need to be Patched using the Universal Firmware Patcher for Protected Garmin Devices to use them. This patching is device specific determined by the HWID as shown in the garmindevice.xml as you can see by the previous posts here.

Hello,
I have a edge 830, and I can't read a map unlocked. I don't found any working patcher for the edge 830.
Are you a solution for this model of garmin ?
Thank you
