Thank you

Assuming you are talking about Garmin Express, "Software Updates Available" , it has not given an option not to install them for a while. There is a way, but it is quicker just to Patch the latest firmware

Hi,

Apologies for my ignorance.

I have a Zumo XT and I was hoping to use "Garmin City Navigator North America NT 2023.10 FID 93" downloaded from this site.

I think I'm right in understanding that I need to patch my device for the mpas to work, but I've not found anything in this thread that suggests it's possible.

From my GarminDevice.xml:
<PartNumber>006-B3484-00</PartNumber>
<SoftwareVersion>640</SoftwareVersion>
<Description>zūmo XT</Description>

I've searched this thread for "3484" but found nothing to patch my firmware with.

If there is a possibility of patching my device, I'd be grateful of any help. Thanks in advance.

In this thread You can read in an answer from GarmanNuvi on April 1,2022:
For a few years newer device's firmware could be patched (determined by their HWID) to use unlocked maps, since the DriveSmart 65 the firmware has been encrypted on these later devices.
Unfortunately it looks like Drive, DriveSmart 52,55,65,66,71,76,86, zumo XT ,Alpha 200i, Montana 700 are all in the same category.
No solution as the Universal Firmware Patcher does not recognise the new encrypted format.

So, your Zumo XT is also on that list......

No, I´m talking about this message show on display of the unit while turning on.
Even when I uploaded patched firmware, my 66st let me know that has new firmware version already installed.
This is not a major problem, I click just "NO" for update when turn on the unit, and everything works perfectly, but I´m curious why this happen.

Officially seems to be version 9.60 the latest one, therefore I haven´t tried 9.90. But I probably will .... Thanks

FW 9.90 has been officially available since January, Garmin stopped publishing the latest Software versions on-line, there are several other language updates and the latest Time Zone gmaptz.img v 29.00 via Garmin Express.

That's great, I assume your device is using the Wi‑Fi option for Software Updates and giving you that notification. I would turn it off, especially using Patched FW, then you can use Garmin Express after installing the Patched FW for any other updates.

Garmin Nuvi 2689 says new map unlocked may need firmware dow

Postby pcfixme » Sat May 07, 2022 2:58 am

Hello!
I have a garmin nuvi 2689 and i put a new map of Eastern Europe on the sd card in /Garmin as gmapsupp.img
the garmin says can not unlock map
on another thread someone said the firmware needs to be downgraded to 8.7 and then patched to read the unlocked maps.
There was a link to nuvi26x9.870 downgrade but the link was broken.

Can some one please provide a link to the 8.7 firmware version?
and also a link for the patch so the device can read unlocked maps?

also i read somewhere the map doesnt need to be named gmapsupp.img and can be in a /map folder instead of /garmin folder?
if true then i can have WEurope.img and EEurope.img in the /map folder on an sd card or should it go into a /Garmin folder on the sd card?

here is the info i pulled from the garmin device xml file
<Model>
<PartNumber>006-B1948-00</PartNumber>
<SoftwareVersion>880</SoftwareVersion>
<Description>nüvi 2689</Description>
</Model>

Thank you!

Welcome to the forum, your device needs to be Patched first to use Unlocked maps for Europe .

I have a Garmin DriveSmart 65 Live Traffic

I did put the image on the sd card in /Garmin/gmapsupp.img
and device started.
However I get the message:
Cards are damaged and cannot be used. go to [Please Register or Login to download file] to download the latest maps.
I also don't see on my device, North America in "My Maps".

on linux i see with file:
gmapsupp.img: DOS/MBR boot sector
