Its a sd adaptor card with a micro sd card inserted

Mon May 13, 2013 6:15 pm

On some of the earlier Binatone's the path on the SD card had to be MobileNavigator/MobileNavigator.exe

Rename the navigator folder to MobileNavigator and Tomtom Navigator.exe to MobileNavigator.exe

And open the shell.ini with NotePad and change what's already there to
\SDMMC\MobileNavigator\MobileNavigator.exe

Save the file, make sure .txt has not been appended to the end.

No spaces should be anywhere!

Try again...

Please note any SD card over 2GB is a SDHC card and won't work.

I just wanted to drop by and thank you Fatboyfun for an excellent documentation of the Binatone and how to replace the sat nav software. I was desperate to replace the software not because it was out of date but because it was so bad that the sat nave would send me (without exaggeration) miles out of my way only to be redirected a few feet from where I started from. The navigation is so bad that it couldn't tell you to turn around. The voices were terrible and the maps were the most basic I've ever seen.
So far I have carried out your comprehensive instructions and all is well. All I have to do now is add the POI and get that to work.
I have a cheap Chinese Navsure and I might even try and bring that back to life as well.
Thanks again you are a starr!

Right, managed to get it to the tomtom start screen, everything comes up in french though? I know abit of french so went thru some options and seems something to do with ActiveSync? Then it tries to open iexplorer.exe then back to french start up screen without installing?

All this is covered in the guide...

Basically you...

Put Tomtom on the SD card <- you've done this!
Start Tomtom <- you've done this!
Put a compatible map on the SD card (check the chart in post #1 of the official map thread! + speedcams and postcodes if needed.
Run Fastactivate from the SD card, You must use a card reader, NOT the device connected with a USB cable.

Then go to languages within Tomtom and change it to English.
Now you can set up the GPS settings as described in the Binatone guide, and then the rest of the settings as you wish.

It's important to exit Tomtom properly as it holds disc writes in a cache, saving them periodically, so turning off the device will not save the settings.
So after the initial setup find the exit option in Tomtom's menu and use it!

Just looking at the chart... I take it ive downloaded Tomtom 7. All i want is the UK maps for this and the chart is making my mind go abit funny!

Also downloaded fastactivate so thats ready to roll

The chart is easy to use.

Scroll down to the UK maps, note down the map edition.version (AAA.BBBB), make sure a meta code is posted so the map is usable.
Go back to the chart, find the BBBB number in the left column, go along the horizontal column to the far right, a green Yes means it will work with your version, and a No means it doesn't. Check all available map versions, and you should have at least one that's suitable.

You'll probably need to use the 905 edition maps for now.

In the majority of cases the smallest by file size is the one to go for.

Thu May 16, 2013 5:25 pm

Ive got the TOMTOM working now and changed to English, however, NO GPS DEVICE is written in the bottom left...Any ideas?
