Looking for a little advice - I picked up a cheap Binatone Carrera X430 and am aiming to run iGo 8 on it so that I can update to recent maps. After reading this thread and putting iGo on an SD card I have it running, but the program doesn't fill the whole screen - it's like the resolution is set wrong but I have:

;screen_x=480
;screen_y=272

and

;resolution_dir="480_272"

in the appropriate sections of the SYS.TXT file. I feel like I'm missing something simple, any ideas?

I've just discovered a massive massive design fault on the Binatone F430 series of Sat Nav's.

I regularly see these on eBay 'Spares Repair', does not switch on. I just wonder how many of these are due to this design defect. I'll post more (and a solution) as soon as I can get my old account back. I'm locked out of Skezza and don't own the e-mail address anymore :( :(

So, I've put together a quick video to demonstrate the defect for you. I was going to do a walkthrough but I think the video demonstrates the defect very well. I was having some issues with my F430 (one of the reasons I bought the X430 with TMC) switching off randomly, often when I was trying to press something at the bottom of the screen but occasionally when I went over a bump in the road. Anyway, I took it apart to see if there was anything loose and noticed the issue didn't appear when the screen was off the base of the device. Reassembling the device caused it to go utterly haywire. Trial and error and soon enough I was able to reproduce the defect consistently. The main ribbon cable attaching to the screen is uninsulated. It shorts with either a metal plate on the board or the two contacts which I show in the video. Either way, voila, the device dies and this is consistent and I've now been able to reproduce on 2 F430's. Now let me clarify, perhaps the insulation has broken down or something, these devices are getting old now, but this would be the first mobile device I've ever seen this happen too. It also perhaps explains the amount of spares and repairs that I see on eBay.

Here's a video with a bit more detail of the issue and a fix. I have some hi res photos if anyone is interested.

If you decide to do this, make sure you're careful taking it apart. Quite clearly Binatone didn't want you to.

Morning,
I am getting ym hands on a new old stock Binatone F435.
Let em say for year's i know how to do tomtom's, install tomtom go on mobile devices etc no issues.
But binatone device is an whole new area for me.
I am not sure if it is wince 5 or 6 as not in my hands as yet, if 6, i will have to go to IGO.
But due to amount of years past i cna assume firmware and software changes do happen.
What igo would i be looking at installing?
Best wishes

I really need some help, I've tried flashing Voxtel on this X430 I own, but unfortunately it now doesn't switch on. I only get a white screen if I hold the power button for 20 seconds while a flashing SD card is in. Can you help?

Hello, I have Binatone D430. I need to get rom for this device because when I got it failed to startup. I find x430 rom and hope maybe it helps but now it turned even worse. Only white screen appears when I turn it on. I still can boot to software update but I need to get working rom for my device. Maybe someone have it?

Hi Fatboyfun,

I need your help please if you don't mind as I know you are very familiar with Binatone sat navs.

I have a Binatone G500 Model:4035 and I installed iGo 8 following the guides and it worked perfectly, I installed all the maps and I verified it locks satellites and plots routes then I turned it off and stored with a full battery (the battery never went flat as I charged it from time to time).

When I was ready to ship it (I am doing it for a family member, as I don't drive) and I turned it on and the touch screen does not respond anymore, it gets stuck at the warning of the GPS needs time to lock in, and don't use it inside, bla, bla, bla and the OK button doesn't respond to touch.

And if I don't get past that screen I don't know if turbodog loads.

I have tried resetting it, boot it with or without microsSD and nothing, it chirps when I put the microSD in and it connects to a PC and I can access the internal memories(shows Windows CE) so I know windows seem to be fine.
What I did before putting in storage (for troubleshooting sake), I changed the language of the original turbodog software to Portuguese from English and I deleted the contents (and maybe the folder, I don't remember) of the Mobile Navigator and the 4 bin files from the DataFlash . After it malfunctioned I put them back from a backup but still does not work.

It seems to me that could be a software problem and I don't have a ROM to try to flash it. Because if is the touch screen digitizer is just that, hardware failure and is not worth pursuing changing.

But because it died so suddenly without me doing anything I was asking myself if there is something I could try before disposing of it. I have a feeling that deleting that MobileNavigator folder might have cause the problem in the long run (it worked fine after deleting it and it worked without that folder)

Thank you for reading my long post.

Could you offer any help or suggestion please?

Hello,
I would appreciate some feedback if someone has some knowledge about Binatone M515, a sat nav with a dash cam, I am wondering if I can put primo 2 on it as I think the unit may not
be supported for new maps via Ndrive updates, I've downloaded and installed windows mobile device centre on windows 10, I had a problem with it starting but after reading the extra stuff you had to do from another website the front end boots up but it won't sync to the unit,(WMDC-fixes-for-Win10.msi as well) reading some other advice it might need windows media player installed in order for it to work, I uninstalled media player a while ago and don't really want to put it back on, I've googled about and there is a distinct lack of information about the Binatone m515 for me to know if I can put the primo on, I have tried the instructions on page one of this thread about putting the apps on the sd card but have had no joy, the apps I have found and attempted to put on I found through 'Private Bay' seem to be mostly south American but I was hoping to change the language once installed, even with the ,ini file and the app renamed to MobileNavigator it does not boot from the sd card, also the unit doesn't make the 'ding dong' noise or the other noise when turned on, I presume it is one of the newer units with winCE6 but I don't know, I can work from instructions but might need clarification if I get some help, thank you
PS, there is a 9 minute video by a chap called Lother on youtube which I followed by the .sys file I had wad different to the one he was modding.
