Which Binatone ?

Postby Bootech » Sat Oct 19, 2013 10:23 am

Hi,

I have a Binatone G430 and it's really good, does what it says on the tin, dead easy to update with IGO and maps and stuff so was thinking I fancy a new one, reason being is that I put IGO Primo 2 on it and you have to have the very basics as it struggles and spits out errors when you have all the whistles and bells on it, 3D maps and street names and land marks and stuff, I presume that it's processor isn't that good and the internal memory is probably very minimum, So what one would you guys recommend....

Thanks

I've put primo 2 with all the extras on several F430's and they run fine.

I would buy one of those myself, but I already have three devices.

I find the 3D buildings and landmarks are a waste of resources.

The S500 is ok as well.

Bear in mind they all have only 64MB of ram.

Thank You for replying and explaining that, Is there a difference in the on board processor's in them, if they all have (including G430 which I have) 64mb of ram I wonder if that's why I'm struggling to run the full primo IGO 2 on mine with everything activated.

I have run IGO Primo 1 quite well, and then found this site whilst i was looking at updating a friends TT and then stumpled across the latest maps and stuff for mine (Binatone) so thanks for a great site!

So yeah, I installed IGO Primo2 and just keep getting out of memory errors on it and "application needs to close" all though the cache looked as though it was requesting way less than was available.

Thanks

Use the shell.ini to start \windows\control.exe
Open the System applet
Tap on the Memory tab
Drag the slider all the way to the LEFT
Point the shell.ini back to where it was
Reboot

This will give you maximum memory, you should only need to do this once
It's not always set correctly.

aha! thats a pretty neat tip, I wondered how you'd go about doing that, when I first got it I didn't have it a day before it had an extra memory card inserted into it and IGO put on.

Just one question if I can, after I run the \windows\control.exe ini and adjust the slider, and then quit out and restart, the slider seems to be back to where it was before adjusting, is there any thing I need to do to save the settings after adjustment. ?

Thanks again for your help.

If the setting isn't persistent, then there is a little tool that sets it, you will need a script to automate the process.

I have posted it several times around the forum, if you can find it, If not I'll post it again later...

Thanks for the reply.

I found BinatoneMemoryFix and have run that and so far no more "out of memory errors" and I've re-run the PRIMO2 install and have a new skin on with just about all the settings that I want. Happy days.

I also noticed that there's binatone toolbox, thinking might put that on as well.

The toolbox gives you commonly used tools in one place.
It's useful for setting up new or friends devices and can be stored on a separate sd card.

Thanks, ah was out yesterday and everything was going OK and then "wham" out of memory, try and allocate some storage memory to application etc" I reset it and then one more time got a little box appeared that said "out of memory cache etc" (Different from the 1st message) I'll take a note of what the details were as was driving at the time and needed it. but requested was way less than was available.

Time to trade it in me thinks and get one like yours.

You'll probably find the memory fix needs to be run every time, this will require a custom script...

ah I see, like you'd mentioned earlier, I was under the impression that running that memory tool was it. So like amend the shell.ini (I'll have a look about, you said you'd posted it somewhere)

You could modify the memory fix tool.

I'm not in a position to look at it at the moment, and I don't remember my own code.

1, Place these files in the same directory as the GPS application.
2, Rename the GPS executable to Navigation.exe
3, Set your device to run RenameMe.exe, If you need to rename the .exe then rename the .mscr to match, ie, MobileNavigator.exe and MobileNavigator.mscr
4, Reboot device.
