DNX9190DABS Map update

Postby GarminNuvi » Mon Jan 24, 2022 4:17 am

You will have to work out what files are required first, get the garmindevice.xml file from the Kenwood unit as explained below, might be slightly different as I couldn't find your specific Head unit. Finding the correct files ,unlocking them doesn't guarantee it will work but you will be one step closer.

Hi thanks,

I am in New Zealand and hence interested in the Australia NZ Maps 2022 update. Here is a link to the model I have. There is a eBay AU seller who said these units have some kind of protection so he doesn't sell the updated maps for it.

So thanks for the updated map files however whichever way I attempt to copy/load them the DNX-9190DABS doesn't show the updated maps.
Here is what I tried:
1.
Backup the original SD
Copy your files to a new SD. Boot Kenwood unit with new SD. Garmin doesn't show the map no errors. Use gimunlock-0.04 on the files and retry same result.

2. (this step is to try the backed up original Garmin files onto a new SD).
Copy My Original SD (from backup) files to new SD. Boot Kenwood unit with new SD. Garmin complains with "Can't Unlock Maps" error.

Use gimunlock-0.04 on the files and retry. No error this time, but no map.

3.
Copy your downloaded (updated maps) to existing ORIGINAL SD Card overwriting the original Garmin files (Eeek :/), and deleting files that do not exist on original SD.
Boot Kenwood unit with Original SD with updated map files. Garmin complains with "Can't Unlock Maps" error. Use gimunlock-0.04 on the files and retry. No error this time, but no map. Kenwood Garmin settings -->Installed maps shows
Image

4.
Copy my backup of original SD files back to the Original SD card overwriting your downloaded maps, inc JCV folder. Kenwood / Garmin Working fine with old maps. (PHEW :023: )
I obscured the road names :D

Installed maps shows 3 maps

So there is some new copy protection that is tied to the card used as well?
Here is the file structure of the original card. The JCV folder has a file that's different name to the updated maps one. D2563270A.JCV vs D2563370A.JCV

Junction views are updated sequentially with the map
2019.20
D2563270A.JCV
2022.30
D2563370A.JCV

I agreed with what you were told by an E bay seller via PM

So I have the latest files for your device based on what is on there now, I have created unlock files .unl using your device ID.
to see if that works.
If not try using Gimgun just drag & drop the .img files onto the gimgunlock-0.04.exe to unlock them.
It is quite possible the Head Unit ,as the guy from Ebay says has protection like most of the latest Garmin devices

GN

Please use the Thread for any other questions, I only used a PM to protect your device ID

You are not saying what Country you need maps for. You will need to get a new SD card and follow the map update process to get the garmindevice.xml then use Garmin Express to reinstall the maps you had.
The SD card slot is in the front behind the screen.

I'm not able to get anything from Garmin Express with the garmindevice.xml. The files should be in C:\ProgramData\Garmin\CoreService\Downloads\Map\Map_Map.NZAUNAV.2023.10\rmu\nzaunav\2023_10\fa7318e5-a981-4270-83ba-63195fbe91cc
Australia & New Zealand updates are about 500mb ?

Hi all, I just joined as I had the same problem:

Here's the process: get a formatted 10+ GB SD card and plug it in the Nav unit behind the screen (underneath the DVD slot).
Go to the Nav initial (no map) screen (back button on bottom left of map screen), then:
Settings -> Device -> Update Map -> (go to www. site message) OK -> (insert SD card) OK (writes config file to SD card).
Plug the SD card into your PC, open Garmin Express and it should see the SD card and invite you to download the latest map.
Plug the card back into the Satnav and the new maps automatically update.

Last bit is really important - Don't remove the SD card!!!

Hope this helps :)
