Your maps should be in a directory map otherwise they have to be named as gmasupp etc..

On device
.system/gmapprom.img

On SD card
Map/gmapsupp.img

This device would need to be Patched to use Unlocked maps

Adding multiple maps in Garmin Nuvi 2XX GPS

Postby Mapmart » Sat Jan 01, 2022 7:17 pm

Hi all,
Happy new year! And thanks for all the useful info provided here.

I'm installing this map on a nüvi 265W. I erased the old map (gmapprom.img) from the internal memory and copied the provided file to its place. It worked fine.

But now I'm trying to move this map to an SD card, without success. Gathering info on the forum (Adding multiple maps in Garmin Nuvi 2XX GPS), I'm listing below what I've tried so far:
- Move the gmapprom.igm file to the SD card, on a "Garmin" folder. No success;
- Rename the gmapprom.img to gmapsupp.img. No success;
- Repeat above procedures moving the map to the SD root folder, no success;
- Repeat above procedures leaving a different gmapprom.img (older) in the internal memory, no success;

Additional info:
- I tried the above procedures with 2 different SD cards. Both are formatted FAT32. One is a regular 8Gb card, another is 4Gb micro SD, tested with 3 different adapters;
- The SD cards are working fine. They both are recognized on the PC (internal slot) and also when inserted in the nüvi, (plugging the USB cord). So this should rule out a defective SD slot in the nüvi.
- The map file is not damaged nor corrupted, since it's the same file that is running fine from internal memory - and also on another nüvi 1300 I have;

I could not understand what I'm doing wrong. Since I couldn't find anything else related to this issue in the forum, I decided to post this question - apologies in advance if this is not the right topic to ask.

I appreciate any help on this issue.
Thanks!
Mario

Welcome to the forum.
Make sure your firmware is up to date [Please Register or Login to download file]
Sometimes people rename Garmin\gampsupp.img.img because they have not set their PC's to show extensions
use [Please Register or Login to download file] with your device plugged in to help you with location of supplemental maps on your SD card.
try this [Please Register or Login to download file]
Try putting a Speed camera .gpi in Garmin/POI/ on the SD card to prove your device is seeing the SD card.
Check your garmindevice.xml to see the location info.

<Identifier>IMG</Identifier>

-<Location>
<Path>Garmin</Path>
<BaseName>gmapsupp</BaseName>
<FileExtension>img</FileExtension>

Hi GN,
Thank you for your help and to point me into the right direction - I didn't find this topic before.
As BuddyBoy pointed out, it works from the SD Card as follows:
Device model/Firmware:
Nuvi 260W Firmware 7.80
working image names with paths:
SD-Card:\Garmin\GMAPSUP1.IMG
It actually works even without another map in the internal memory - I deleted the old one.
I'll check those tools you linked - I already installed Garmin Express and updated the FW - but I wasn't aware of the JaVaWa Device Manager.

Update: Thanks to your recommendation on JaVaWa Device Manager, I could also get the map to work from the SD card on my nüvi 1300.

Device model/Firmware:
Nuvi 1300 Firmware 6.30

working image names with paths:

SD-Card:
\Map\gmapsup1.img

Thank you for your support!

Garmin Nuvi 750 - can not read maps from SD

Postby dahren » Wed Jan 26, 2022 7:02 pm

Hi,

I do not know where is the problem...

I have created /GARMIN folder on SD card and I have added unlocked South maps from City navigator Europe 2022 as gmapsupp.img.

But Nuvi 750 can not read maps whatever I do. Base camp can read it.

Does anybody knows why this Garmin can not read it from SD? Am I missing something? Do I need to add something else?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. Please start using the "Thumbs up" button, this would let us know if you are using the correct maps for your device.
Your device uses NT maps for Europe
What size is your SD card ,did you format it FAT 32 ,Is your device Firmware up to date.

Use a tool like [Please Register or Login to download file] device manager to help you see what is installed where with the SD card plugged into the device.

Thanks for reply. Yes, I am using those maps 2022. Size of SD card is 16GB and in FAT32 format. I can pick maps on Garmin but there are no maps shown in navigation screen.
Firmware is updated via Garmin Express to last one. Do I need to erase original base map installed in memory so that it can read map from SD card? Thanks for support. :023:

You didn't say this before !, installed maps are shown in tools >settings>maps
Do not delete the base map gmapbmap.img , if you already did that might be your problem

.
Remove the SD card and try this test map on the device storage ,change the name to gmapprom.img if necessary

You are missing a few important files including the gmapbmap.img and as I said above "Do not delete the base map gmapbmap.img, if you already did that might be your problem"
If you use the program [Please Register or Login to download file] device manager I suggested you will be able to see what the 10 year old gmapsupp.img showing in your device is.

Using a Garmin GPSMAP 66s I found out some very interesting possibilities.

1. First ... I can use any file name for maps on a SD-card, as long as the extension is *.img
The device boots up and recognizes all my maps!!!
2. Second ... I can use up to 256GB SD-Cards, as long as it filesystem is formatted as FAT32. Using Windows did not work well for that (it left a small part of the drive unused which caused the GPS device to freeze during boot). But using Ubuntu I deleted ALL partitions, created ONE (1) primary partition with a FAT32 filesystem. Copied my files to this card and all *.img files were recognized!

It made me happy AND wondering why, as far as I know, no-one has reported these possibilities so far.

Try for yourself ... hopefully with the same good results as I had.
