Important note for Tomtom models like VIA52/62, Start40 etc

I had a look at my VIA 135 updating gps-fix and mapshare. That with wireshark under Win7 with MyDrive; works just fine. There is quite some crosstalk between MyDrive and TomTom services via http and https, as well as MyDrive and usb-connected device via http(for status) and device port 3129(reverse-proxy for http[s]). Via that reverse-proxy port the device queries TomTom http and https services. I saw the device sending the cert or key for https queries. Sadly, my knowledge ends with saving all the traffic with wireshark. So, if anyone is interested ...

Then I downloaded the navcore ttpkg from http://download.tomtom.com/sweet/navcore/00000000-0084-0012-0710-013705962092_system-update.ttpkg{,.md5}, which is as far as I can guess the one for my device. At least it fit my device info shown from TomTom device info menu. Extracted the data and mounted the squashfs rootfs.img.new. There I found some interesting files I list here, descriptions are just guessed:
ssh authorized_keys wrote:# find -type f -name authorized_keys
./home/factory/.ssh/authorized_keys
./root/.ssh/authorized_keys
rsa key; for access to tomtom pnd https service I saw in wireshark? wrote:# find -type f -name 'pnd*'
./etc/pnd.dss
./etc/pnd.rsa
various key descriptions wrote:# find -type f -name '*.pem'
./etc/package-publickey-content.pem
./etc/package-publickey-dev.pem
./etc/package-publickey.pem
./etc/srvcerts/cpr.pem
./etc/srvcerts/ods.pem
./etc/srvcerts/pkgdownload.pem
download, verify and install ttpkg wrote:./usr/lib/jobhandlers/pkginstall

Maybe it is possible somehow that the validate_* functions return '0'?! I do not know, though.

How to generate a rsa key for signing file files:
http://developer.tomtom.com/products/bridge/distribute/Updater "Section: Secure update locations"

Well, I wonder if these infos help anyhow?!

May I post links to the navcore package?

Hi All,

I've started with the first few lines of the first post in this topic, it's dated back to 2012, saying no solution for nc 10+ since Sep 2010. I was curious to see what happend 4 years later. But then I noticed the solution should be posted in the first topic.
We can assume that, it's very like won't be solved. The only way to fix this problem to find some bug in the making. But looks they made a flawless work :022:
As you can see, even the Enigma machine in WW2 would not have been cracked if that hasn't had a flaw in it. Even with todays technology, if you turn the 158962555217826360000 combinations of the machine, into the easily crackable NTLM hash type, you won't crack it within 20 years,by using a residental power supply 230V x 13A, and that was a mechanical machine from 60 years ago.

Surprisingly the second hand TomTom unit prices hasn't been raised. You still can buy them for £20 with a possibility to put a 4GB card in it.Even can you turn it to a Truck,Bus navigation for less than 10% of the original price.

Is it possible to put an old 8.xx or 9.xx Navcore on the new devices?

Will it be possible for me to add a map (UK & Ireland) into my Start20 via a MicroSD?
I currently have Central Europe maps installed and I would like to add UK & Ireland maps into them as I will be traveling to UK soon.
Thank you!

You better off if you buy an Android phone(won't work on a tablet) and install the 'TomTom GO Navigation GPS Traffic v1.9 (1273)' it's only 51 MB to download from torrent, than you can download selected maps through the (cracked) TomTom Go Mobile app.

It's not the model that's important, it's available space of the internal drive that will be the issue because US and Europe maps are quite big.

Try and buy a model that has an SD card slot and 64MB of RAM like a Go x20, x30, x40 , x50
